Each artists set is usually on an episode and the name of the artist and song appears on the screen. The artists perform in front of a live audience as it is filmed at a festival and then the artists are shown being interviewed later on. There are lots of different stages at the Glastonbury festival and there are different shows on each stage so that people are able to watch whoever they want.
The genre conventions of the show are the Glastonbury logo as well as the different stages which are always there, which attract lots of different people such as families and friends. For example, there are triangles all around which represent the different stages there at the festival, which are seen in Liam Gallagher's interview next to the silver camper van. 
The visual style of the show is that there are multiple stages and it is filmed outside as it is a festival. For example, during Ed Sheeran's set they open with a low angle long shot which makes you feel as though you are part of the audience at the front row of the audience looking up at Ed who is performing. There is also a mass audience at the festival which is also shown. For example, when Ed Sheeran starts his set it cuts to an establishing shot of the audience which shows you the atmosphere of the festival and enables you to feel as though you are there. 
On the show the acts are introduced and then footage of the artists set will be played and it will show the artist performing and then it will show the audience. Then it may change over to show another artist on one of the other stages after one of their songs so that the audience doesn't get bored. The show also includes exclusive interviews with some of the acts which have performed there on the days. For example, when Liam Gallagher is talking to Jo Whiley they are stood in front of a silver camper van which adds to the festival 'camping' element while she is interviewing him. This interview lets the audience get to know the artists and Liam describes the festival to him at the beginning of the interview so this way the audience can imagine what it is like for the artist performing.
The techniques used to do this are are the jib cameras as they enable footage of the audience to be seen and some footage of the artist from the audience point of view. For example, when Ed Sheeran is talking to the audience before he introduces the song he asks them to help him and then it cuts to a shot of the audience at the festival. This gives the at home audience a sense of how many people are there and so it helps them to imagine what it is like. There are also cranes used so that you are able to see wider footage of the audience and for all round coverage. Handheld cameras are also used to see different and up close shots of the artist as well as the first couple of rows of the audience. For example, when Ed Sheeran is singing his song Bloodstream it cuts to a close up shot of his face during the chorus. This is so that the audience are able to see his emotions during the chorus of the song which he wrote. The handheld cameras are also used on stage to see footage of the band, artists and dancers up close.
The meaning is communicated to the audience through lots of different camera angles and shots which are used to show the audience the atmosphere of the festival. For example, when Ed Sheeran is singing his song Bloodstream, camera angles are used to communicate meaning to the audience. This is because they use a close up to show his facial expression during the chorus so that you are able to see the passion during the song. The vision mixer cuts frequently in order to keep the audience entertained as it shows different angles of each performance and so it keeps them interested. For example, when Jo Whiley is interviewing Liam Gallagher it cuts from her introducing him to a close up of him while he answers her question of how he is doing, then it cuts back to a shot of the two of them. This is so that the audiences focus is on Liam while he is answering the questions.
The crowd appears in the footage of the festival as it shows to the audience the atmosphere of the festival and it also shows that they are enjoying it as they are dancing, jumping and having fun to the music. For example, while Ed Sheeran is performing his song Bloodstream it cuts to the audience frequently. Such as when there is an intense part of the song about 3/4 of the way through it cuts to a shot of the whole crowd dancing to the part which shows the audience what it is like at the festival. The crowd also appears to show the emotions of the festival as it is exciting and fun, it also appears to show the different types of people which attend which shows that anybody and everybody can attend and have fun. For example, in the 'Best Bits of Glastonbury' video it starts with opening shots of the people who attended the festival, the second shot in is of four people on the grass and they are all wearing shorts and some of them have sunglasses on, this shows the summer and relaxed feel of the festival at all times.
In order to maintain the audience's interest they use the technique of having fast paced cuts which shows different angles of the performance and shows the crowd having fun which shows that it's enjoyable. They also break up the music with interviews with the acts which makes it interesting for the viewers.
The constraints of filming at a festival are that even though there is a lot of space it is awkward to film as it is outside so it may get wet and so they would have to be careful with the equipment. Also, there is the chance that one of the crowd members could break the equipment too. The genre conventions of the talk show are that it features a red sofa where the celebrity guests sit and the host, Graham Norton, sits on a red chair to the side of them. For example, when Anna Kendrick and Eddie Redmayne were on the show they were sat next to each other on the sofa and as a new guests comes out they move down the sofa and Graham is sat in the chair to the left of them and he talks to them about their upcoming movies. There is also a table where the guests put their drinks down. The show also has a musical guests performing at the end of the show every week. For example, when Shawn Mendes appeared on the show as a guest, he was the musical guest and he performed on a separate stage to the right of the main set and then after he performed 'There's Nothing Holding Me Back' he came over to the main set and talked to the guests for a couple of minutes at the end of the show.
The visual style of the show is that there is the main set which includes the sofas and chairs which are red as red is a primary colour which is bright and so it attracts attention and focus. For example when Anna Kendrick was on the show she was introduced and when she came out she sat on the red couch. This attracts the audience's attention as she was wearing plain colours and so you focus on her as she was dressed in black and the couch is red. The theme of the show is purple as well which is a colour of royalty which makes the show stand out. There is also the performance stage area which is next to the main set area. For example, when Shawn Mendes was a guest on the show he was the musical performance of the night so he was stood on the stage when he was introduced and so the audiences attention was on him as he was stood away from the other guests.
On the show the first celebrity guest/guests will come out and will be interviewed about their new film/tour or television show, then they will show trailers and clips from what they are promoting. For example, when Eddie Redmayne was on the show he was promoting his new film 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them'. This gives the audience an insight into the new film and his character as he plays the main character so that the audience are able to see a bit of the movie so that they know whether they want to go and see it. Then the other guests will come out one by one and will go through the same format, the guests and host will chat to each other as well. At the end of the show there is a musical guest who will perform their new song on the performance stage on the set and will then join the others on the couch. For example, when Harry Styles performed on the show it cut to his performance where he sang his new song 'Sign of the Times'. This shows the audience his music and what he sounds like live so that they can go and buy his album or tickets for his tour.
The techniques used to do this are jib cameras to get closer angles. For example, when Harry Styles' performance begins, the opening shot is swooping over the audience which they would've used a jib for. This sets the scene for the song and introduces the artist to the audience. They also use, standard studio cameras so that they are able to film particular parts when they want. For example, when Graham is talking to Eddie Redmayne, the camera cuts to a close up of Eddie as he is answering and talking to Graham and when he laughs as it shows his emotions to the audience.
The meaning is communicated to the audience through different shots and angles used. For example, when Eddie Redmayne was on the show, whenever Graham was speaking the camera cut to him to show his expression while he was talking and when he directed a specific question to Eddie the camera would cut to a close up of Eddie in order to show his reaction to the question. This helps the audience to see his emotions connected to the question.
The vision mixer cuts between the guests and presenter in order to get the question from the host and then to get the reaction from the guests to the question as this way it is easier to see their emotions. For example, when Graham was interviewing the guests about award shows and he is talking to Liam Neeson and it cuts to show Liam's face. This gives the audience an indication as to what he is feeling about their current topic which is the Oscars.
In order to maintain the audience's interest they use the techniques of having fast paced cuts. For example, when Graham is talking about award season and he talks to Eddie Redmayne and Liam Neeson it cuts to close ups of their faces when he directs a question or a statement at them. This shows the audience their reactions to being nominated for an award and their emotions towards it. They also maintain interest by showing them video clips and photos on screen as well.
The constraints of using a television studio are that the space is smaller as there is an audience involved and the fact that there is a live audience because of the reactions and the possible noise. At the beginning of the series there are room auditions where the contestants sing in front of just the judges, these parts are pre-recorded. Then they move onto the next stage where the people who got through on the room auditions will go through to boot camp where they get put into groups and perform together singing their own parts and then its gets decided who goes through to another auditions period where they perform in front of a live audience. They then go through to the six chair challenge where only 6 of the contestants from each category; boys, girls, over 25's and groups, are chosen by their mentor to got through to judges houses. At judges houses each mentor picks 3 contestants to go through to the live shows. At the live shows all acts perform in front of a live audience and each week one act is eliminated. 
The genre conventions of the talent show are that it features the judges desk along with 4 black chairs. For example, in the live shows the judges are sat at a desk in their black chairs which are faced back towards the audience so they are able to see the chairs which look professional. It also includes the giant X's which are a part of the shows identity. In addition, when it comes to the live shows musical celebrity guests perform every Sunday. For example, when Harry Styles performed on the show he performed before the results of the vote of the show was read out on the Saturday and then on the Sunday they had another act before the results. This is to keep the viewers interest and to attract new viewers because if their favourite artist is performing then they my watch the show, this is also an opportunity for the artist to promote their own music.
The visual style of the show is that there is a stage where the contestants perform. For example, when they are at the live shows they all perform on the stage such as Jack and Joel from the groups category, when they performed they used the stage and a different smaller stage off from the stage. The set up is more like a game show set up as it includes judges which sit in front of the contestants. For example, when Jack and Joel perform you are still able to see the judges sitting there which reminds the audience that this is still a competition for the contestants so this adds the element of that.
On the show you see the contestants who introduce themselves and you see the judges as well as they watch the contestants and while they're waiting for the next one. You are also shown the backstage area where the contestants wait as they look nervous, you also see the backstage area after some contestants as they go to see their families or they are walking back through it. For example, this happens during the audition process of the show and so while you see Christian Burrows about to perform, he is talking to the judges and it cuts back to his family who are stood with Dermot. This shows you the vulnerable side to people and also shows that their families are nervous as well. You are also able to see different areas of the stage as there are multiple cameras around the edge of the stage which show centre, left and right stage. You are also able to see side stage at some points.

For example, when Jack and Joel were performing near the start of their performance a jib was used to show the audience who were dancing with them. This shows the energy in the arena to the audience at home so that they are able to feel as though they are there. They will also use handheld cameras so that you are able to see the backstage access. They also use pyro techniques on stage when someone is performing a powerful ballad or when it is a fun and energetic song.
The meaning is communicated to the audience through the audience reactions where close ups are used as you are able to see the live audiences reaction to the contestant performing. For example, during Jack and Joel's performance it shows the audience dancing which shows that they are enjoying it and so the people at home will enjoy it too as they will feel like they are there. The close ups are also used to show the judges reaction to the contestant as well. For example, when Jack and Joel are performing it also shows the judges in mid shots who are smiling which shows that they are enjoying it too. This makes the people at home enjoy it too as they will be influenced by people who are actually there. These are used so that the audience is able to see what the people who are live there think about the performance and the close ups also show the emotions on the face better.

For example, when Jack and Joel are singing the bridge to their song it shows them and then cuts to Alesha who is seen to be nodding her head whilst smiling which shows that sh is enjoying it so far. This shows to the audience that the judges are enjoying their performance and so they begin to enjoy it more too. Also, it show the judges when they are making their comments about the contestants performance and they then show the contestant in order to show their emotions when they are receiving their comments. 
In order to maintain the audience's interest they used fast paced cuts to show the judges and the live audience's reaction to the contestants performance as it shows their emotions towards the performance which show whether they thought it was good or not. For example, when Grace Davies is singing her original song and it get to the intense part it cuts to show Nicole who looks impressed and then cuts back to Grace and almost immediately cuts to show Sharon, her mentor, who is shaking her head and throwing her arms up as though she is saying how good she is doing. This maintains interest as it shows her mentors and another judges view of her performance which appears to be positive and os the audience will keep watching to see what their comments will be afterwards.
The constraints of using a television studio are that the amount of space provided is small so there are spatial restrictions.
