NEWater is an example of how the government prepares of the future by ensuring self-sufficiency in water supply. Singapore has been importing water from Malaysia under two water agreements. The first agreement expired in 2011 and the second agreement will expire in 2061. However Singapore has found alternative water supplies in order to be self-sufficient by producing NEWater and desalinated water.

negative-> Singaporeans are uncomfortable drinking processed sewage water. The government should not force us to drink this. The water should only be for industrial use. There are even some that believe that its cheaper to just buy water from other neighboring countries, and why lower our hygiene standard by drinking NEWater.

Postive--> Some Singaporeans believe that NEWwater is cleaner than other present drinking water. In fact, we have to mix it with the water in the reservoir to make it less pure.
