It has a high speed : Through bringing devices and technologies for data processing closer to the original source of the data, decreasing the physical distance the data will travel and time taken to transfer, edge computing significantly decreases times of inactivity or latency, thereby increasing the sensitivity, volume, and efficiency of the overall service.

Authentic links, Efficient.: Edge computing offers local microdata hubs for the collection of data and retrieval. As an outcome, businesses will rely on stable networking for their IoT systems, even though it impacts cloud infrastructure. Additionally, edge computing enables IoT systems to use less bandwidth and run normally under restricted availability, reducing client questions around data and information.

Lower cost: it lower the cost of operation, reduce the cost of data storage and management, Minimizes the bandwidth required and reduces the money expended on data processing.

                                                                                                                                                       (SHOEMAKER, 2018)

Edge computing collects and analyzes only a set of data, discarding raw and unfinished information. Organizations will determine which extent of the lack of knowledge is appropriate.

Edge computing will improve projections for attacks. The chances for threats and cyber criminals to penetrate the networks and access confidential data have expanded with the introduction of IoT, network-connected machines, and designed-in computers.

For edge computing more local hardware is needed. Of example, IoT cameras need an embedded device to transmit digital data over the web, and a far more complex computational framework for more specialized software applications, such as algorithms for motion sensors or face detection.

                                                                                                              (SHOEMAKER, 2018)

INTRODUCTION

When various information and things are connected to networks it is referred to as the IOT, which stands for Internet of Things. And huge varied and incomplete data generated by IOT need to be processed and responded to in a very short time. Today, cloud storage has become an indispensable part of that process. However, the cloud that’s been centrally deployed on a global scale needs to process an enormous amount of data. In addition as the physical distance between the user and the cloud increases, the transmission latency increases with it as well, increasing response time and stressing out the user. On top of that, the processing speed in this environment is largely dependent on the performance of the user’s device.

The solution to these problems is the edge computing platform. The edge computing platform works by allowing some application processing to be performed by a small edge server which is positioned somewhere between the cloud and the user, in a location physically closer to the user itself. This allows for some of the workload to be offloaded from the cloud storage or user’s device at a location closer to the user for processing, while speeding up applications that require a low latency response.

Example of EDGE COMPUTING

A good example of an application is a web browser. Web browsers are currently one of the most widespread applications which are in use by businesses and private users. According to a survey when PC users were asked what they were doing on their PCs, 95% responded that they were using the internet. When asked for what, responses included watching videos, research and downloading data. In recent years web browsers have been operating on more and more devices from set-top boxes and stick PCs to digital displays. Yet the usability and display speed of a web browser is heavily dependent on the device’s performance and if it’s not up to the task the weight can be stressful. So to reduce that stress, a company named NTT Network Innovation Laboratories has developed a web browser that offloads part of the workload to an edge server.
