We can even teach our students to use Google Sites since it is an easy and free way to create webpages. We also need to include students in this process. We cannot be afraid or ashamed to ask our students for help, and in fact we should be encouraging them to lead discussions and presentations on how to utilize technology. This will give them a sense of autonomy and empowerment, and will show them that learning can be a two-way street for the student and teacher.
The ISTE standards are a great way to ensure educators are up-to-date on the newest and most efficient ways to use technology. There are many resources available to us so we can learn about new and different ways to use technology in the classroom. It's not the teachers throwing technological tools at the students for them to use, but the students taking an active role in learning things that they are passionate about using the technology that is available to them.
To ensure our students are being active with their own learning, we need to create engaging and effective lessons. As educators we need to recognize that the students now are different from students before and need to adapt and change how education is presented.
As educators, it is important we take the time to get to know our students and adapt to their specific needs.
