Multiple different musical elements such as tempo, rhythm, harmony, melody, and many others set the foundation of what the general expectation of classical music really is. Because classical music originated hundreds of years ago, recreating the sound today calls for very strict guidelines and little room for creative innovation. I heard popular composers like Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart all within the same hour. Most of the pieces contained the same musical elements that define many of the works. I've seen students carrying around brass instruments, practicing the drums and woodwind instruments, and a number of students using the pianos scattered around the campus. I was able to listen to a work from both Beethoven and Mozart. Listening to the works made feel as if I was in the time period they were written in. In Haefeli's work, she states that there are 3 building blocks to a successful musical work, "Notation...Musical Language...The concept of the work..."(Haefeli By outlining these 3 key factors, she illustrates traits that almost every popular classical music piece exhibits.
