A pre-test/post-test design will be utilized in a pilot study of approximately 10-20 subjects to evaluate the effectiveness of a newly developed end-of-life organized educational guide called the CARES tool. Novice nurses in their first year of practice will take the Palliative Care Self-Efficacy Scale (PCSES) prior to an educational program including the ELNEC end-of-life modules and use of the CARES tool. Each nurse will be provided with a laminated CARES tool pocket guide to reference when caring for a patient at the end-of-life. After six months, these nurses will be given the PCSES as a post-test to evaluate changes in palliative care self-efficacy
