-- The abject has a strong feminist context, in that female bodily functions in particular are ‘abjected’ by a patriarchal social order. In the 1980s and 1990s many artists became aware of this theory and reflected it in their work. In 1993 the Whitney Museum, New York, staged an exhibition titled Abject Art: Repulsion and Desire in American Art, which gave the term a wider currency in art.

 Create 3 ‘self portraits’ that deal with or respond in some way to the ideas brought up in the lecture ‘Body, Identity, Therapy’ that utilise the skills learned in your lighting and photoshop tasks and engage in the ways in which identity can be explored photographically.

Make a ‘self portrait’ using natural or available light. Think about how the naturalistic lighting conditions can be used to highlight or accentuate who you are and how you present yourself to the world in what could be considered an ‘authentic’ or ‘realistic’ way. 
--> use brick background, or pattern of artwork behind, simple, maybe play w blakc and white. be authentic, my most naked self, most of the time i have heavy makeup and give air of vulnerability

Make a ‘self portrait’ using staged or constructed light that utilises two visibly different qualities of light. Think about how the duality of the lighting set up you are using could be used conceptually to explore a duality within yourself, moving away from the naturalistic version of yourself explored in image 1 and embracing artificial and fantastical modes of representation in a single image. 
--> have a haunted movement vibe, hands of family/freibds grabbing face, DRAMATIC color x low key style 

Make a ‘self portrait’ that uses photoshop to digitally alter yourself or the universe of the image in post production. Think about how digital interventions allow you to construct purely fantastical or idealised versions of who you think you are or how you wish to present yourself to the world. This image can be made in a location or locations of your choosing.
