Enjoy a special morning with the birds of Herdsman Lake guided by experts from BirdLife WA.

This free event is designed to include everyone, especially anyone with a disability and carers.

The lake is a hotspot for birds and the boardwalk through the wetland is a great way to spot them. There will also be binoculars and telescopes for viewing birds more closely. The day will start with birdwatching and a guided walk through the wetland, followed by morning tea and a short talk.

WA Para Sailing Academy Inc. are delighted to collaborate with Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Australian Sailing, s4E Foundation, WA Disabled Sports Association and a fabulous team of likeminded organisations and yacht clubs across WA with a desire to make sailing more inclusive and accessible for everyone!

This event also incorporates a pre-regatta Inclusion Development Programme (IDP) - Training Camp from Monday 24th - Friday 28th November from 10:00 am daily.

The IDP offers morning theory sessions and afternoon on-water training activities to support and encourage participants to achieve their potential during the championships and enjoy a dynamic week of camaraderie, learning and development on and off the water. The IDP is provided completely free of charge thanks to the generous support of RFBYC in conjunction with the WA Para Sailing Academy Inc.

We are very excited and looking forward to welcoming a huge contingent of 30 sailors from NZL, QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC and from across regional and metropolitan WA.

Run alongside the statewide Woodside Nippers All Abilities Program, this special event gives participants the chance to explore a modified “Nippers-style” session that focuses on fun, friendship, and surf safety — all in a supportive environment tailored to individual abilities.

💚 What is All Abilities Nippers?

The Woodside Nippers All Abilities Program is designed for children 5 years and above who may benefit from additional support or adapted activities. The program focuses on:

• 🌊 Water and beach familiarisation

• 🏃‍♀️ Physical activity and coordination

• 😀 Enjoyment and social interaction

• 🏖️ Beach safety and confidence-building

Participants engage in many of the same activities as regular Woodside Nippers — including beach games, swimming, and board skills — with trained volunteers providing one-on-one or small-group support where needed. Each participant in the full program receives their own Woodside Nippers uniform (hi-vis vest and cap) to promote inclusion and belonging.

All departmental staff were encouraged to get involved this IDPwD by learning more about how we can help create inclusive workplaces for people with disability. Staff were invited to familiarise themselves with the ADN’s Australian Neurodiversity Toolkit. All staff were also provided with useful information from Independence Australia and the Australian Human Rights Commission to help them contribute to removing barriers and promoting inclusive and respectful attitudes and behaviours in our community.
