         <description><![CDATA[<div>One of my very first encounters with growth mindset was in the 5th grade. My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Hutchinson, encouraged me to adopt a growth mindset using a strategy that she called a "careless mistake". In the 5th grade, there was a lot of pressure to do well on the high-stakes testing at the end of the year. I remember that we would constantly take practice tests from previous years but what made taking these tests more meaningful was that Ms. Hutchinson would have us record our score, graph it, and identify the skill associated with the question we got wrong. After we did this, we reviewed the question and most of the time, we realized that these were questions that we could have answered correctly or that we can answer correctly next time. The idea of making a "careless mistake" was effective for me because it made me realize that I had control of my learning and that I had the power to direct my learning for next time. Soon, I found myself self-assessing and realizing my own careless mistakes and how I could prevent it from happening again next time. This approach made high-stakes testing tangible in that, although the state may not require reflection that I could reflect on my learning wherever I was. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Strategy 4: Questioning</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Another strategy that encourages growth-mindset is the use of probing and clarifying questions. Questioning is an essential tool for teachers to use for students to accommodate their ideas. Asking a student to clarify their thinking is more effective than giving the student the answer or telling them that they are wrong. Probing questions push students thinking in that they are using what they already know and what they have learned to come to further conclusions about ideas presented within the class. This encourages that all students are critical and reflective learners. </div>]]></description>
