Throughout its cartoons, Disney aimed at showing the Allies as the winners of the war, and also to incite the citizens to support the war effort.
We can observe this trend in the first cartoon "The Thrifty Pig", released on November 19th in 1941, which is showing 3 little pigs, who represent the Allied, because of the British flag next to their houses. The goal of this cartoon is to encourage the civilians to give money to support the war effort.

Indeed at the beginning, one of the pigs is building his house, thanks to war saving certificates, shown

here as bricks. Afterwards, the wolf is blowing on the houses to get the pigs out of them and destroy them. These houses can represent the Allies' countries under the German domination, except the last, the one from the U.S.A, which resists to the blowing, thanks to the bricks. So the pigs succeeded in chasing the wolf away at the end.
By showing this, the cartoonist wanted to make people react and support the government to win the war, by sending money which will be used to produce more and more arms, to finally beat the wolf, so the Germans in reality. People of Allies' countries are finally directly involved in their victory. At the end, the sentence "To save this war, spend less, lend your savings...." shows the real intention of the Allied Government. It reveals obvious in the last sentence "Invest in victory".

Otherwise, the Allied and particulary the U.S.A are also represented in the cartoon "Der Furher's Face". Indeed, at the end of the cartoon, a duck dressed as an american citizen wakes up from his horrible nightmare of the nazi regime. The goal here is to highlight that the Americans are "the good guys" in this war. Finally, the statue of liberty shows the U.S.A as the country of freedom to make a contrast between it and the nazi's system to denigrate it, also compared as a nightmare.

The representation of the Nazi ideology

Based on an idea of racism and mostly on antisemitism, the Nazi ideology is represented in these cartoons by different ways, but always with the aim of showing its crual side.

In « Der Fuehrer’s Face », the point highlighted is the deshumanisation of all people under the Nazi totalitarian regime. As a duck works hard in a factory, creating shells, he is forced every single minute to salute his fuehrer by doing the « heil Hitler ». This cult of personality proves that all German suffer from a brain washing with propaganda and censorship. The people is not allowed to think by itself anymore, but has to follow the Nazi ideology, where Hitler is depicted almost as a god who everyone has to venerate.

« Education for Death » also represents the control that nazis take on the people, and the strong antisemitism aspect of the ideology. It tells the story of a couple, about to have a child. They are forbidden to call him with a Jew name, and have to prove their future baby has no jew ancestor. When the little boy is born, he is educated at school to be part of the nazi youth. There, he’s teached that there are two kinds of persons in the nature : the ones who are « strong », and were born to lead, and the others, « the weaks », born to obey the strong or to die. Then, he is taken off from his mother to become a soldier and fight for his country and for every values he’s been teached.

Therefore, the principal aspects of the nazi ideology highlighted in these cartoons are the all-powerful of the government, and especially of Hitler, and the antisemitism, hatred of Jews, but also of weak peolpe, that is anchored in the head of people.

During Second War’s times, propaganda had the aim of spreading out ideas all over the world. Thus, the Disney studios get a part in the war effort by producing propaganda through educational films.
By this way, in each cartoon product, we can find some similar appearances of the German party.

For instance, in the cartoon titled "The Thrifty Pig", Disney had exposed Germany such as a tyranic wolf. The latter is wearing an armband with the Swastika on it, which vehicles a meaningful message. We can also notice the massive destruction brought about by Hitler’s regime and emphasized by this short film. Nevertheless, there aren’t the sole facets this dictatorial regim conveys. Indeed, Der Fuehrer’s Face depicts in particular the antisemitism and the cult of personality consecrated to Hitler. We can talk about brain washing in this system in which racism and Aryan superiority are claimed. Thus, Donald used as the representation of the german society is portrayed like a tool in some way, in the spiral of terror and oppression.

In the cartoon "Education for Death" released in the USA by Disney in 1943, we can notice different aspects of the nazi regime. After the conformities about the birth of their child, the young parents receive a copy of the book "Mein Kampf" composed of the nazi ideology. It’s a form of propaganda. In this extract, the antisemitism and the superiority of the Aryan race is highlighted.

Later, the childhood of the little Hans is related. First, the histories told to the children at school. The knight is Hitler and Germany is represented by a big woman, intimidated by Hitler. Germany looks awkward and silly. It stresses the power of persuasion of Hitler and his ideology during this period.

Finally, we can observe Hans in the young movements, the Nazi ideology is inculcated with strength to the children. When they become adults, they all want to conquere the entire world in order to gain their vital space.
