A dam raises the water level to make it like a waterfall
2. The  water hits a turbines blades at the end of the waterfall.
3. The turbine turns the kinetic energy from the water into mechanical energy.
4. A generator is wired to the blades of the turbine so if they spin so does the generator. The generator then turns the mechanical energy into electricity.
5. Transmission lines from the generator conduct electricity into homes and buildings.
