         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Bahamas government is a constitutional monarchy. The Governor general represents the queen in the Bahamas. They have a house of assembly. Assembly members serve or work for 5 year terms. The Prime minister is chosen by the majority party in the Assembly. Senators are appointed by the governor general. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Most Bahamians work in hotels or other businesses related to tourism. Little Bahamian workers farm. They grow food such as bananas, citrus fruits, sugar cane, tomatoes and more vegetables. They raise chicken for other foods like meat and eggs. Fisherman usually fish for crawfish and other seafood useful for export.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Lucayo Indians lived in what is now called the Bahamas before europeans arrived. In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed in San Salvador Island and thought it was Spain. The Spanish enslaved the Lucayo Indians and took the majority of them to work in gold mines on islands near Cuba and Hispaniola.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Throughout the American Civil War (1861-1865),  Bahamas were successful in becoming a base for ships smashing the union blockade of Confederate ports.</div><div>After the war, The Bahamas went through a period of economic drop. This lasted until 1900, when tourists started visiting the Bahamas.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div>Participants wear decorative, colorful costumes made out of, cardboard,&nbsp; crepe paper, beads, feathers, sequins and plastic jewels. The style of the music is called goombay. It combines brass instruments,&nbsp; goatskin drums, cowbells, gourds, conches, and whistles! At the end, prizes are given out for the best dancing, costumes, and music.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

Tourism is  a mainstay in the economy approaching 40% to the country's total domestic product.</div>]]></description>
