The industry I chose to do research on is Healthcare. I chose this industry because I plan on becoming a physician’s assistant, and I want to understand how AI is changing the medical world I hope to work in. AI is becoming a big part of health care and it can impact my future career in both positive and negative ways. In my padlet wall I will explore three main AI applications, future trends and ethical considerations and societal impacts relating to health care and AI. The different AI applications I will cover are virtual health assistants, AI-powered medical imaging analysis, and AI medication alerts using apps. Virtual health assistants are helping patients manage their health from home, while AI imaging tools are improving how doctors find and diagnose diseases. Medication alert apps are also keeping patients safer by reminding them to take their medicine correctly. These technologies show how AI can make care faster and more accurate, but they also raise questions about privacy, job changes and fairness in treatment. This industry and its AI applications are significant to me because they directly relate to the kind of work I hope to do in the future. I’m intrigued to see how AI can improve care and reduce stress for healthcare workers, but I also feel it’s important to understand the challenges it can bring, such as changes in job roles and patient trust. Learning about AI now helps me prepare for how it might change my role and the healthcare environment I will be a part of in the future.

Healthcare - Virtual Health Assistants

Virtual health assistants are AI-powered chatbots or voice systems that help patients with tasks like answering health questions, booking appointments, or managing medications. They use natural language processing (NLP) to understand and respond to human speech, and machine learning to improve over time. These tools make healthcare easier to access, reduce wait times, and free up doctors for urgent cases. However, they still face issues like limited understanding of complex medical problems and privacy risks. What stands out to me is how they show that technology can make healthcare more personal and convenient, though I think they should always support, not replace, human care and empathy (Maher, Singh, Wylde, & Chastin, 2024).

AI-powered medical imaging analysis uses computer vision and machine learning to help doctors read scans like X-rays, MRIs or CT images faster and more accurately. It can spot signs of disease such as cancer or pneumonia that humans might miss. This technology improves early detection, saves time, and helps doctors make better decisions. It can face many challenges like data bias or mistakes if the system isn’t trained properly. I find this interesting because it shows how AI can truly save lives. In the future, it could make healthcare more accurate and available, but it still needs careful human oversight (Spectral AI, 2024).

Healthcare - AI Medication Alerts Using Apps

AI medication alert apps use machine learning to remind people when to take their medicine and to warn them about possible drug interactions or side effects. These apps can track doses, send notifications, and help prevent harmful mistakes. They make managing medications easier, especially for people with many prescriptions. Despite these benefits, they can face issues like false alerts, privacy concerns, or depending too much on technology. I think these apps are impressive because they make it easier for patients to stay consistent with taking their medications and take control of their own health. They have great potential to keep patients safe, but it’s important that users still double-check with their doctors when needed (Meegle, 2024).

AI in healthcare is growing quickly and will keep changing how medicine works in the future. According to Alpha Sophia (2025), major trends include using predictive analytics to find diseases early, AI powered imaging to help doctors read scans more accurately, and virtual assistants that support patients with scheduling or health questions. AI is also speeding up drug discovery, improving personalized treatments, and making hospitals more efficient by automating paperwork and data entry. These tools can help doctors focus more on patients and make healthcare faster and more precise. However, there are important ethical issues that must be addressed. AI systems need large amounts of patient data, which raises privacy and security concerns. Bias in AI algorithms can lead to unfair results, especially for groups that are not well represented in the data. It’s also hard to explain how some AI systems make decisions, which can reduce trust. Another issue is accountability because if AI makes a mistake it can be unclear who is responsible. I believe the future of AI in healthcare looks very promising because it could make care more personalized, prevent diseases earlier, and reduce stress on medical workers. At the same time, I worry about fairness and privacy. If AI is not used carefully it could increase health gaps instead of closing them. To build trust, I think developers and healthcare providers need to focus on transparency, equal access, and strong privacy rules from the start (Alpha Sophia, 2025).

AI is transforming healthcare in many ways, bringing both positive changes and new challenges. According to HIMSS article, AI can help reduce the workload on healthcare staff by automating tasks like data entry, scheduling, and billing, which allows doctors and nurses to spend more time caring for patients. This also can raise concerns about employment since some routine jobs may be replaced by machines, and workers will need new skills to work alongside AI systems. Another major issue is privacy because Ai depends on large amounts of patient data, and if this information is not protected properly, it could be misused or leaked. Equity is also an important concern because AI systems can unintentionally reflect biases in the data they are trained on, which could lead to unfair treatment or misdiagnosis for certain groups, At the same time, AI has the potential to make healthcare more accessible through remote monitoring, telehealth, and faster diagnostics, especially in rural or underserved areas. Yet, without proper infrastructure these communities could still be left behind. Personally, I feel both optimistic and cautious about AI’s role in healthcare. I see how it can make care more efficient and improve access, but I also think it’s essential to have strong rules, transparency, and training to protect workers and patients. Overall, I believe the true success of AI will depend on how well society adapts to its social impacts and ensures that progress benefits everyone.
