My right side is my most strongest side, but because I know I can do it on my right side fine I will continue to try and develop and improve this by thinking favour other exercises hat will challenge me.

In order to develop my right leg I decided to elevate my leg on a chair and push myself into over splits so I get a further stretch. This will help my develop my flexibility loads more which will benefit my technique and make sure I get my maximum stretch. This will especially help me advance and develop my leaps and jazz technique and also improve my kicks and leg extensions as my hip flexors will be more flexible and loose this also applies to my left leg development.

In order to develop my left leg splits I also decided to use a chair to do over splits so I reach my maximum stretch. It is important I work on both legs and I don't just concentrate on my most strongest leg because i need to be capable to do techniques on each side especially if I go to an audition and they ask for something on my left side. I need to be prepared for both especially if I want a career in the dance industry. Also by doing both it helps with my side splits as it needs equal flexibility on each leg to be able to get down.

In this routine I felt like the first half of the dance was performed quite confidently and strong with clean footwork however I do feel like I could of exaggerated my dynamics more showing a clear change of sharp moves to slow "melted" moves. It's important I include these qualitys to make the dance look more effective and interesting instead of quite boring and dull to watch. I also feel like I needed to concentrate on my projection and travelling, this will enable me to give the audience the effect of my dance looking bigger and more stronger with a better stage sense and presence.

In this dance I felt like my key strengths was I tried making my moves sharp and strong with accurate alignment even though it wasn't all perfect at times I felt like this is what I had improved on. The weaknesses I felt I had when performing the routine was my retention and musicality to pick up and do the dance in time. This applied mainly in class as the more I practised it in the studio I managed to pick it up better and be more in time.

In this dance I felt like I travelled more on for example step ball changed etc. I also felt like I could add a bit of style and range my dynamics from soft to sharp although I felt like now I've reflected on my video I had more softer range of movements which the dance only began to vary in dynamics towards the end. In class I felt like my retention and focus effected the way I performed and picked up the dance quick enough. I need to incorporate more cleanliness and exaggeration on moved to create a bigger impact on my performance. This is especially important in the dance industry as your setting may be on stage where a big audience needs to be able to see you perform to a high standard.

In this dance I felt like I had seen personal improvement on trying to pick up the choreography although I have only been doing commercial for a couple of weeks so I still have plenty of room for improvement. In addition concentrating on my main weaknesses would be my stylistic features which can be further developed by doing more commercial and getting inspiration from other choreographers and teachers. Another weakness I had was my alignment and how clean my performance was in terms of doing the dance as the choreographer taught it and wanted us to perform it like. I felt the more I practised in the studio the more I managed to improve on this weakness.

I loved the style of dance and music in this piece as I felt it was quite relaxed and more of a hip hop style which is what I am more used to having experience. I felt like the dance was all about making big movements and grooves. In this dance I felt like I could add my own stylistic quality a bit more and pick up the routine quicker than normal. My weakness when watching this video would probably be my projection and accuracy when performing as I know myself some bits aren't as Rio taught it as but it was just a review of what I could remember. In the future it is important I give attention to detail to help benefit my performance and outcome when learning from other choreographers.

In this dance I tried adding my own stylistic quality and concentrate on isolating my hip movement and getting the correct movement. I feel like I could of presented my arms In a less awkward way but I also feel like I performed this better in class around and Infront of other people also there was a lot more space meaning I could perform the dance with more projection. I also felt like my jazz technique was poor in this video also due to this matter but also because it was the end of the week and I was sore from my training. Moreover I enjoyed this class a lot and loved being able to learn different styles of dance whether I find it more of a challenge then some I can't wait to progress on my experience with doing a variety of dance styles.

In this piece I felt like I could express myself and include emotion in my dance whilst keeping the choreography clean and as accurate as possible. I tired to vary the dynamics so it looks sharp and also soft but with longer durations of movement in different bits. When I review this video I felt like I could of analysed where I was going to hold the certain bits of dance for longer to give a more exaggerated effect on my performance, for example in the beginning when I turn to the side in a lunge, I could of made that part last a little longer and made the dance flow a little more as I felt it looked stiff in some places.

In this dance I felt like because it was quite short choreo, I managed to retain it quite well enabling me to focus more on my performance as it was quite a seductive dance with long to quick durations of movement. I felt like I was more confident doing this dance and the more I practised it the better I felt about performing it which is the right principal with any dance. However my weaknesses in this video was my leaps and kicks when it came to doing technique it didn't seem to flow with the dance or wasn't as good as I was used to doing it like. I felt that I performed the technical parts of the dance better as in class we had a lot more space as we was in a big studio but I also feel like because I was quite stiff and sore when I filmed this that I wasn't as loose and flexible as normal. My weaknesses can my improved and identified by practising my jazz techniques and strengthening my muscles to enable me to have more contrast as a dancer.

I like this dance as I felt like I could put alot of energy more into the choreo. There was also quite alot of long poses where I think I could of filled the music a bit more without it looking awkward and make it more flowing. When I look back at the video and compare it too class I think I performed it better in class rather than at home due to the space and being more warmed up and focused. I feel like when I'm in the studio it's a different atmosphere to being at home which effects my performance in comparison to how I do it in the studio. However there's nothing I can do about it apart from practise more so I get used to both. I also feel like that in my dance I could of used more stylistic quality, although I tried to isolate my hips more when you could do your own counts or put your own style to it, I feellike my performance was missing something that made me want to watch it and not just look like a dance and the same as everyone else's. This can be improved by watching other choreographers when they perform there routine or watching other peers do this routine in class etc.

In this dance when I first learnt it I felt like I couldn't focus on the moves and my retention was really poor. When I was in class I was squashed at the back which didn't help at all when we learnt the beginning of the dance so even though I wasn't the strongest there at commercial at all and was still unsure of the dance I decided to try got to the front so I could pick up the dance and see the choreographer more Clearer. This helped a lot an enabled me to ask questions on bits I was unsure on. When I asked for feedback I got told I needed to work on my grooves a bit more but got told I have good determination. I could improve my ability to groove more by focusing on my isolations and listening to the music so I can combine my movement with the music. I felt like after a lot of practised I managed to improve this however on the video there's a change in music when a different verse is introduced where I am supposed to melt before going into walks forwards. I need to work on that because visually it doesn't look as good or how it's supposed to look compared to what the choreographers showed us.

I like how this exercises breaks it down so I am able to get the right positioning. However at the end I did 3 pirouettes instead of two which made my ending not as controlled as It should of been. This is something I will have to remember when I do it again so I can use my core to control my jazz positioning after the second pirouette.

However I couldn't push to my maximum in this class because we didn't have time to warm up properly because we had to get on with our assessment exercises. Also with the studio being small I couldn't travel at all and make my steps long and big but I do feel like I got height on the tuck jump we did at the end. To improve I would make my arms a lot more stronger and try getting my leaps higher.

I also feel like my retention has improved, it's not at the standard I want it to be at yet but I do feel like I can pick up dances a lot more quicker then I used to do. When comparing both videos the more recent video visually looks better to watch and more interesting then the "love galore" dance. Overall I am happy with my development and hope that i continue to improve at a good rate to prepare myself for the future.

Janet Jackson assessment targets

Target 1: improve cleanliness and precision

I will achieve this by going through the dance in sections and carefully in more depth analysing how I perform it. This will include concentrating on my alignment and levels because that's what makes a dance look more cleaner and perfected. I could also achieve this by getting someone to peer assess me and tell me how to improve and give me Criticism.

Target 2: stylistic quality

I will achieve this by researching the background of the song so I have a greater knowledge of the dance and its social and historical context. In this case the choreographer wants you to mimic the style that Janet Jackson portrays and what the dancers create in the music video instead of having your individual style. This will help me a lot as I will be able to concentrate on the dance given and incorporate the artistic intentions. By including more style in the dance it gives the dance more of a contrast and more interesting to watch, you can also perform it more confidently improving your presentational and performing arts skills.

Target 3: musicality

I will achieve this by listening to the rhythm and counts of the song without dancing to it. Personally it will also help me by going through the dance with someone else and trying to stay in sync with them so I stay more in time. Also by improving my dynamics it will help me stay in time as in the section I dance in there is a lot of variations in the dance through contrast of slow to Sharp movements. This gives a more wider variety in terms of performance and style as well as musicality.

My favourite choreographer is matt Steffanina. He inspires me as a choreographer due to his career based from YouTube and the social media. He built his own reputation by being an independent individual as a you tuber who taught himself how to dance. He influences me through his attitude and stylistic quality he adds when dancing/choreographing. I like how he started on his own and made it to the top and the connection he shares with other dancers.
He is an executive producer of dance tutorial live and serves as a choreographer, teacher and dancer on his two enormously popular YouTube channels mattsteffanina and dancetutorialsLIVE.
He grew up in Virginia and lives in Los Angles, he is 30 years old and fro research taught himself how to dance at the age of 18, from then on all his dance training has been based around experience from competing with a hip hop dance crew and the opportunity to work with top artists such as Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, with Usher being his first inspiration. He also performed on ‘so you think you can dance; and choreographed for tv and commercial and currently teaches at millennium dance complex in America doing weekly classes.
His main skills are
• Originality
• Versatility
• Musicality

My favourite piece of work that Matt Steffanina produced was Bad n Boujee. I like the contrast of dynamics used and the vary of temp in the remix. Overall I love the choreography and how you can engage with the dance to put on a performance.

Overall Assessment Analysis Review

Overall across all assessments, I was very happy with my performance. I felt like the outcome was more successful than expected and I’d shown great progress since starting at Shockout Arts. I felt more determined and confidence with my performance from when I did in class at the start. My main strengths was my performance and retention when remembering the dance, I also felt like I was strong and showed effort when dancing. My weakness was my musicality in some parts of the commercial and warm up during musical theatre. Another weakness was my projection, I felt especially in some jazz exercises and some sections of the commercial that I didn’t or couldn’t use the space provided as efficiently as I needed too. I also felt like in commercial my communication wasn’t very good with dancers when making sure we all had an even amount of space and the entrance and exits when leaving the stage wasn’t very clear and appeared messy at some points.
In commercial I struggled keeping up with the cardio due to lack of training which affected my stamina, to improve this I need to keep up with my fitness more by doing specific training to my most weak areas this will be completed by doing a 6 week fitness programme to track my progression.
In jazz I felt I didn’t travel as much because I was worrying about getting the technique right too much, I also felt like due to this my combinations didn’t look as clean, I can improve on this by when in classes and in my next assessments making sure I travel and use all the space provided by stepping/travelling wider and further.
In musical theatre I felt I didn’t perform my warm – up to my best ability as I’ve done in class due to nerves and being unsure of the layout, I let myself get distracted to easily by the people around me which made me keep changing my mind about what comes next. In order to improve this I need to ensure that next assessment I am confident with everything including the warm-up and minor exercises and have practised it on my own so I can be more individual in assessments.
In conclusion I felt my main strengths in each style was when it came to performing the routine as i felt most secure with that part of the assessments and could present myself better. I felt my musicality had improved a lot in the routines and I managed to incorporate facial expressions’ without looking to false. My punctuality and attendance overall was also regular and my determination and effort to practise in my own time helped keep up with the dances given and motivate and enhance my performance. I will now strive to meet my targets set and my weaknesses identified and incorporate them across all my training and next assessments as well as being specific to each style of dance in classes and performances.
dn’t look as clean, I can improve on this by when in classes and in my next assessments making sure I travel and use all the space provided by stepping/travelling wider and further.
In musical theatre I felt I didn’t perform my warm – up to my best ability as I’ve done in class due to nerves and being unsure of the layout, I let myself get distracted to easily by the people around me which made me keep changing my mind about what comes next.

Jazz assement dance
This was a rough video of a mark up of the jazz assements dance. Although it's not my best performance it was to show and help me know what to improve on technique wise. It made me realise where my arms needed to be more dynamic and placed and where arms needed to be placed, it also helped me see where certain steps for example ball changes, needed to be more clearer and precise in order for the dance to be more technically correct and not look as scruffy. Finally more performance needed to be added which is what u will be working on after perfecting the routine as I was lacking stylistic quality and projection even though it was just a mark through due to time and space.

Martha Graham was known to change the artistry of dance in terms of breaking the rules and creating something so simplistic and bold that touched the style of movement in the art form of dance through her comprehensive modern techniques which goes against any syllabus or rules written in the history of dance. One of her most famous performances when she featured in ‘Xochitl’ an Indian legend to where she played a maiden protecting her virtue from drunken Toltec emperor. The performance included fierce, powerful dancing to which built up her reputation and helped her gain recognition.
I like her work because of her wide range of creativity and images she portrayed during her performances. She touched the heart of the dance industry and wit that in mind changed the industry as a whole influencing many dancers including myself.

Akram Khan, a 43 year old choreographer and dancer, still young tries to influence and teach the demands of his movement through the origins of Kathak style and the foundations of contemporary. His collaboration of the two styles influenced the dance industry as a new art form was brought to life. One of his most recognised performances was ‘Les Abbesses’, where he mesmerised the audience as he entranced in darkness creating strong immaculate atmosphere to where the audience could feel his presence. He asked to be able to see the audience so his performance could be based on the number of people there, how they breathed/moved and their reaction to his dance. His speed and movement was maintained by the adrenaline rush he felt from the audience as his body created an imagery of a story unknown to kind.
I like his work because of the way he combines two different style giving everyone a complete different outlook on contemporary. He proves no one can be wrong and anything is possible in the world of dance you've just got to put your heart and soul to it. He motivates me in the way he aims to inspire and help other dancers learn his ways of dance through telling a story and movement from the body.

By improving my levels I managed to achieve a wider over stretch in my splits helping me build up and improve my flexibility and stretch in my hips. If I carry on with this stretch I will see progress within 1-2 weeks in my classes such as jazz when doing kicks and leaps etc.
