I have students collect water quality data throughout the year. We collect it ourselves, using the Hydrolab from the Limno Loan program ( http://limnoloan.org/). We also compare data collected by NGSS and the EPA from other sondes/buoys throughout Lake Erie and our surrounding rivers. Once we've collected, graphed, and analyzed the data, we begin to understand the story that our water is telling us--using the language of math :)
