         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Photographs can be used for primary sources when studying history.<br>- Photographs were used in the  military for a visual record.<br>-  Visual records were made by official war photographers like Frank Hurley who was the  photographer for both war.<br>- Photos were and can be used for propaganda by changing how it is composed.<br>The seven questions are used to find the purpose of the photo</div><ol><li>Who the photographer is and what is the source.</li><li>Where the picture is taken and when.</li><li>Editing (if the scene is staged]) Has the photograph been cropped changing meaning or remove/adding details.</li><li>Where the photo is took. e.g whether its close up or faraway (affecting how we feel about the picture).</li><li>What's it about (subject) and do any minor details add some more information.</li><li>Why was the image took (intent).</li><li> What evidence does the photographs show</li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>-</strong> By mid-1916 recruiting campaigns were no longer convincing men to join and enlist in the war. <br><strong>- </strong>The labour prime minister William Horris Hughes decided that Australia should follow Britain in introducing conscription divisions. <br><strong>-</strong> Conscription became a very diverse issue in society and many people argued with each other. <br><strong>-</strong> People who did not step forward to enlist were called traitors. <br><strong>- </strong>Those supporting conscription involved; Business organizations, returned soldiers, protestant soldiers and representatives of parties. <br><strong>-</strong> The Anti-Creed was a leaflet which supported conscription in the 1917 referendum. <br><strong>- </strong>The blood vote was an anti - conscription leaflet.<br><br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>War Weariness in Russia<br><strong>- </strong> From the start of World War 1, the Russian army was known as the Russian Steam Roller.</div><div><strong>-</strong> They were giving this name because people believed they could defeat the Germans and Austrians just because they had a lot more men going to fight than the enemy. <br><strong>-</strong> This was not the case though. Many of the Russian fighters were conscripted peasants. <br><strong>-</strong> None of them had ever been trained before in their life and soldiers were very poorly equipped. <br><strong>-</strong> Revolution: In the Russian capital of Petrograd in 1917 (now St Petersburg) is when the revolution broke out.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>8.12 - Peace and Commemoration</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>-</strong> The 11th of November 1918 ended the fighting of world war 1, but nothing would ever be the same.<br><strong>-</strong> The armies that had killed and maimed each other returned home from the trenches to the world in ruins. <br><strong>- </strong>In Australia, there was scarcely a family that did not have a son, brother, uncle or some kind of relative which had died on the battlefield. <br><strong>-</strong> In 1918, 260 000 Australians had to be repatriated.<br><strong>-</strong> Some soldiers had been fighting for four years and people at home did not understand how badly the experience had affected them.<br><strong>- </strong>Australians were determined to make sure that the sacrifices the soldiers made would never be forgotten. so they made memorials. <br><strong>- </strong>Anzac day was first observed in 1916 to commemorate the landing at Gallipoli and the legends the soldiers made.<br><strong>- </strong>Today the meaning of ANZAC day is shared by all Australians.&nbsp;</div><div><em><br></em><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>8.9 Home Front</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- War was very expensive! (BOTH PEOPLE &amp; MONEY).<br>- A federal income tax and other taxes were made to pay for the war.<br>- The War Precautions Act of 1915 and other acts restricted a lot of freedom.<br>- Discouraging people to enlist in the war basically became a crime<br>- People of German blood were harassed and bullied! They were put into prison camps and could leave if they became an Australian Citizen.<br>- The government wanted censorship to keep morale high and not let the enemy know info, but they also used used censorship to silence people like Tom Barker who posted a cartoon that might harm the recruiting efforts and went to prison 12 months.<br>- Propaganda was used through newspapers and public meeting to spread an idea that the war was between good &amp; evil (the British civilization and the brutish Germans)<br>- Socialist saw people in the war who profited selling war materials.<br>- People organised patriotic events to fund the war<br>- Schools were used to teach children to be patriotic<br>- Women weren't allowed to join in the direct fight but joined as nurses and supported in charity work<br>- Women voluntarily helped allies in making clothes and medicine the army fail to provide.<br>- Women also bullied men into joining the war efforts<br><br></div>]]></description>
