In the short-term, I hope to become much more adept at teaching in the online environment. Prior to becoming a nurse, I was an elementary educator and let my certification lapse. Since then, I have become a school nurse and have a Statement of Eligibility to teach Health Education. My principal has encouraged me to join health classes and co-teach with classroom teachers. I also provide staff education and think that virtual instruction might allow more participation on the part of staff. Additionally, I recently completed my MSN in Nursing Education. In the long-term, I hope to gain skills that will allow me to teach remotely, either Health Education in the public school sector, or Nursing Education at the college level.

I predict that this course will be valuable to me because I will become more familiar with resources that are being used to enhance the effectiveness of distance learning and that I will spend more time learning about ways to make remote learning beneficial for students than I would have on my own time. My intentions for learning in this course are to refresh on best practices for delivering instruction in a remote format and prepare for future needs for distance learning. In my current position, I do not regularly create lesson plans, etc. so I am eager to exercise this skill that I have not been using recently.

I think that this course will help me reflect on remote an hybrid learning. This will be beneficial because with constantly changing models this year, I have no had much time to reflect or to really look at the benefits and what I can continue to use in the future to help me become a better teacher.

I was able to be successful in a number of areas, but I need more information and skill to be truly successful in virtual teaching.
My goal as I get older is to be able to support students across the spectrum no matter where they live. I can see many opportunities for virtual instruction for children who are not able to attend in person for any number of reasons. I anticipate future remote teaching opportunities. My district had already used "blizzard bag" days in place of snow days, but now with our online abilities I forsee having remote learning days as a possible option instead of blizzard bags. I think that remote learning will be something that may eventually be used for our students during the summer as well. In addition we may use remote learning as a way to help parents help their students as well. So I'm here to learn as much as I can about how to be a better remote teacher.

Reading the foundational readings, I was excited by some concepts that were new to me. One was the idea that to successfully teach remotely, I have to regard the process as learning a dialect, not an entirely new language. That was of great comfort to me; I remembered how a number of years ago I realized that (as I thought then) math was a new language (i would say now that it was a new Dialect I had to learn) which greatly helped reduce my math anxiety and increase my math understanding, learning new definitions and uses of the same English words I'd easily used in different contexts.
Now, I have been introduced to the concept of "crisis learning". Thinking about that, I reflected that I have always been effective in various crises I have encountered, and able to adapt - as I have with teaching online. I am looking forward to being introduced to other concepts and applications in this course which I can apply to my teaching.

Another goal is to learn from other teachers. Although I specialize in ESOL and its methodology I can adapt and apply other's practices to my own teaching. I want to learn some additional "tricks of the trade." Working alone in my home, I have not been able to consult with other teachers in my districts and attend PD with them. In PD webinars organized by NHDOE or other organizations, I have heard of
SEESAW, Padlet, Canvas and other tech tools, but haven't tried them, due to the makeup of my students. Now, in this course, I am using some, and as I hear from other teachers, I will learn more about how to use they work and reflect on how to use them in my own teaching. I will also enjoy the opportunity to communicate with other teachers, to improve my own instruction.

I predict that I will be able, and comfortable, to use these tools when I return to in person instruction.
