Music
The Varsouviana
At first the audience might believe it is ambient music and part of the performance but ultimately they realise that it is in Blanche's head and it serves to help them empathise with her and understand her situation.

Perhaps Varsouviana music is another form of expressionism within the play.

The Blue piano is intrinsically linked with the setting.

Masculinity is complex and varied
1. Alan - defined by his weakness as a man - he is at one end of the spectrum and closest to femininity

2. Stanley - defined by his strength and sexuality (and animalistic qualities) opposite end of the spectrum. some romantic notions when with Stella. Does Williams want to be him?

3. Mitch starts out as being 'the good guy' and is described as 'sensitive' and appears to be more educated. Arguably, he is just as cruel as Stanley. He represents hope for masculinity which is dashed.

4. The only gentleman is 'Shep Huntley' - but he never comes. We never encounter him and so this shows that good men only exist in fantasy.
