         <title>Introduction to Chameleons:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I find chameleons interesting. I find the fact they can instinctively change color extremely fascinating. I thought they would be a good topic to discuss in my project because the way chameleons can relate to biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth Science.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Biology: </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Chameleons are considered lizards. chameleons have more than one body form, this allows them to be able to inhabit a variety of habitats. A few examples of habitats that chameleons can survive in are deserts, heathlands, and rain forests. A chameleons has a body that is compressed laterally. They have prehensile feet and tails as well. A chameleons eyes also each move independently. One eye could be looking left while the other is looking right. Chameleons are dependent on visual cues for communication. Chameleons have a good judgement of distance because of their negatively powered lenses. Chameleons also hear well. Unfortunately, they are the slowest of all lizards. Their muscle mass is also less than other lizards. Chameleons have to regulate their body temperature. In order for them to do this they have to use thermoregulation. A Chameleons body temperature should be between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. This also cause them to change colors. Not only do Chameleons change color because of temperature regulation, they also change color for camouflage and communication(Tolley). A chameleon is more calm when they are blue or green and more agitated when they are yellow, orange or red. Chameleons are quick to catch their prey. They can reach out their tongue and attack an insect in a matter of seconds. Although they can catch their prey no problem, the fact that they are the slowest lizard in the lizard family makes it difficult to escape the animals preying on their species. When mating, a chameleon will change color and preform a dance for their mate. The way a chameleon is delivered varies due to different types of chameleons. Some will deliver new born chameleons through eggs, while others will be delivered in clear sacs or cocoons. (Edmonds) </div>]]></description>

         <title>Chemistry: </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There is chemistry behind how chameleons change color. Chameleons change color because of pigment dispersion. The aggregation of organelles also play a part in a chameleons changing of color.&nbsp; Guanine nano crystals contain lattice, this can be found in a layer of dermal iridophores, also allows chameleons to change color. (Teyssier) The lattice in set up in a triangle form. When you apply chemicals and pressure to these, the space between the nano crystals changes. This is what causes the Chameleon's body to change color. The reason this space allows the chameleons body to change color is because it changes the amount of light that the crystal reflects. The order in which the colors of the chameleons change is:&nbsp;<br>going from blue to green, green to yellow, yellow to orange, and orange from red. In order for a chameleon to show that it does not want to be seen as a threat, it will turn it's body color darker. Blue or green is neutral. It is not submissive nor threatening.          <title>Physics:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The velocity, or speed, of a chameleon is affected by the mass of the chameleon. Their heavy mass causes them to be the slowest out of all lizards. The reason behind their heavy mass is an uplifted matter branch. If a chameleon had a lower matter branch is would allow the mass of the chameleon to decrease and its speed to increase. (Zanzi) Physics is also involved in the way the Chameleon changes color. In order for the chameleon to change color, pressure must be applied to the nano crystals&nbsp;to allow for the amount of space between the crystals to change. When the amount of space between the crystals changes, the amount of light these crystals reflect changes. This is what causes the change of color in the Chameleons body.          <title>Earth Science: </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Chameleons are found in areas that have higher temperatures. They can also be found in areas with high altitudes. Chameleons are found in deserts, heath lands, and rain forests. (Tolley) Research has shown that many chameleons can be found in Madagascar. They also widely populate the African continent. There is one specific breed of chameleon that is specific to the Ambilobe area of Madagascar. It is the panther chameleon, otherwise known as the red-bar chameleon.
