According to the article "Ten Theories On The Fall Of Rome" it says "They claim leaders were killed off by consuming excessive amounts of lead.". In this second article I found on "ScienceShot" it claims, "historians argue that lead poisoning plagued the Roman elite with diseases such as gout and hastened the empire's fall" it also claims that most Romans sipped beverages that were cooked in lead vessels and would drink spring water brang through from lead pipes. Environmental and public health problems not only affected Rome but also affects everybody even today. Such as homelessness which is most common in places such as New York City, Los Angeles, and really most of California. In fact, the top three states in America are California, New York, and Florida. With California being the most homeless at a solid 161,482 homeless people. With all these homeless people diseases can spread quickly like hepatitis A, B, and C, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS. Another problem that Rome had and we have is lead poisoning. Mexico, India, and the Philippines all have massive lead poisoning problems from recycling car batteries, lead-based dust, and any home before 1978 all have lead-based paint. And finally, dirty drinking water can cause many diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. Especially in places like Eritrea, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda where there is little to no clean drinking water. And so you see Rome and today's times have much in common.
