The main idea of the article is that African Americans went through many struggles to vote and that the 15th amendment which states the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude, helped their rights to vote. But discriminatory practices were still used, mainly in the South. The African Americans were outraged along with others. This is where The Voting Rights Act came into play. This gave African Americans the means to challenge voting restrictions. This was a very tough fight but eventually African American people are able to vote almost anywhere now.
