Make sure to give a small short intro on who he is and what he does and tell them that as they read pay attention to what they find most interesting about him. First, ask the students what preferred option they would like to proceed with the reading whether they would want to read alone or read as a group and then come together, in the end, to talk about what they learned. Since this is a simple activity if you desire you can look up a video on youtube that also talks about Neil Armstrong so they can also get a visual look at who he is and what he does.

Supplies:

Neil Armstrong book

Youtube video on Neil Armstrong

Also talk to them about how it is so important to know how to read clocks because it is beneficial to our everyday lives. To get started tell the students each still will receive scissors, glue, and a matching worksheet. They will have to read each clock and cut out the digital forms and match it to their pair. You can demonstrate an example in the beginning so they know how to do it without asking questions later on in the activity. Advise them to figure it out on their own first and if they do need help they can get help from their table mates. Make sure their table mates are not just giving answers but also helping them how to get them. After everyone is done make sure you go around collecting their trash to prevent a huge mess and come all together as a class and show them the answer key of the assignment.

Supplies:

Planet clocks in quartz and digital form paper

Pencil

Scissor

Glue

Today the students will be working with their table group to create a thermometer based on the given facts of the chart or data and each student from the table will have to pick a planet and use what they learn from the chart about the planet and add it to an accurate estimate on where it would be on a thermometer. Make sure to show the students an example so they know what are completing overall. Make sure each table has one big white piece of paper, pencil, marker, or colored pencils.

Objective: Students will be able to learn how to be creative and make art

Instructions: In this activity students will have to pay attention very well in order for the activity to work. Talk about how each planet has their own unique color and features that make them that planet so they are going to make their own! Each student at a table has already been provided with their own paper plates ( at least 2 ) , shaving cream, black paper for the background, white paper, glue, pencil and scissors. The paint will be the choice option that they will get to pick individually for their planet. Make sure the shaving cream is already on the paper plate. Go around each table and ask them what colors they would they like for their planet and squeeze it in a zigzag or horizontal way to make the marble look. Then give them a toothpick to swirl it around. Make sure they don't proceed onto the next step until everyone has received and swirl their paint. After they will have to make a circle on the white paper so make sure the black paper is set aside because that will be the last thing they will need to use along with the glue. Cut out the circle and place it flat down on the shaving cream lightly and take it out. Give them a Popsicle stick and use the longer side not the curve side to scrape off the excessive shaving cream off and there they have it! They can glue their marble planet on the black piece of paper they have and if they want they can decorate the background. Have everyone clean up after the activity.

Supplies:

Paper plates

Shaving cream

Paint ( Multiple )

Popsicle stick

Black paper

Scissors

White paper

Pencil

Toothpick

Glue

Remind students what you have been learning about all week and that to make this more fun and just a little twist from all the other stuff they will be learning their theme through music. So for this you will need a device and you will put on ''The planet of our solar system'' song from youtube and instruct the kids that they will be listening through the first 2 times so they can get the hang of the song and after that they can sing along with the video. This is a fun way for them to engage and learn using the song to recall what they know about the solar system. Some students will be shy and that is okay they don't have to participate in the singing but they do have to watch and store what they learned from the song about the solar system.

Supplies:

Device

Objective: Students will be able to learn about the person who invented the rocket ship

Instructions: In this activity, the students will be doing a scavenger hunt, Dr. Robert Hutchings Goddard. First, you would want to give a background knowledge check discussion or intro to the students about what they know so far about space, the planets, creators, and more. Then you can pop in the question if they know who invented the rocket ship. If they don't know that's perfect that is what the scavenger hunt is for. Start passing out the paper for the scavenger hunt that they will be using to answer the questions and make sure to let them know they can work with their table partners if they want to they don't have to. The assignment will take at least 5 minutes to complete so give them an estimated time they will need to be done. Next, tell them this is an internet scavenger hunt so they can use their provided Chromebooks to get the answer. Remind the linked site or website name on the paper so they don't need to use any other outside resources for help. If they need any help remind them to raise their hands and you will get to them as fast as possible. And don't forget to remind them to put a name on their sheet. After everyone is done you can go over the answers to the scavenger hunt with them and ask them what was their favorite interesting information that they learned today!

Supplies:

Pencil

Scavenger hunt paper

Chromebook

Objective: Students will be able to perform and demonstrate astronaut activities in space

Instructions: In this activity, students will get to have the chance to act out freely and imitate how astronauts will act before taking off, on a rocket ship, and in space. This is great for them to get a hint on what it's like in the space area of work. Offer each student a choice of the role they would want to act out for the play. There will be no lines to read off just what they think. The roles are Captain, First officer, Engineers communication, and operation. There are many other roles but get the simpler ones for them to act out so it's not too complicated for them to think too much about what they should do. Before you start explain each role to the students so they know what they should be doing. After making sure the students move the tables to the side so they can have room to have the chair be seated in front of each other and remember to remind them this is their plot so imagine them as already previous astronauts taking another trip to space. To make it even more fun you can turn off the lights, play music relating to the activity, or even be apart of their play too!

Supplies:

Roles slip

Objective: Students will be able to move their bodies and imitate poses

Instructions: In this activity, you will be the student's yoga instructor the students will have to help set up the provided space area in order to proceed with the activity. Tell the students about what astronauts do when they get to space because we all know gravity plays a big part in what they do overall and it affects how they walk, talk, or even pose than the regular things we do as humans on Earth. First, tell the students to get up and move all the tables to one side of the room along with the other chairs so they will have their own space and room to be able to do the yoga activity. Have the yoga poses up on the board so they can get a visual of what they will be doing along with you showing them how to do it. Once they move the interference of the objects make sure they get in their own space not too close to the person beside them and have them have their arms so they can see if they are not too close to anyone. Now that they have their space remind the students that stretching their bodies is very important before they start doing yoga poses so they don't harm their bodies in any way. While you are instructing the kids and doing the yoga poses with them as they imitate you ask them some questions about why they make think gravity has this much effect on astronauts and such. This is a great way for them to get an ideal image of what goes on in space.

Supplies:
No supplies needed
