Community Service Learning

This is a bracelet that is made out of plated gold. It features three large Filigree Flowers with pointed petals.

What the pillar of Community Service Learning means to me is that as part of a community we have a duty to do what we can to make sure that each member has their own unique voice heard. We must come together to help each other and through this process learn from one another as well. This bracelet reminded me of this pillar in that the flowers are designed to be individual but interlocking as they rely on each other to be able to grow. Another interpretation I had is that the circular shape of the bracelet is similar to the cyclical nature of giving help and receiving help when it is needed.

This is a cast iron statue of Mr.Peanut. Mr.Peanut is the mascot for the Planters Nut and Chocolate Company. He has been part of their trademark logo since 1916.

What the pillar of Leadership means to me is that people must take the initiative to represent one another and stand up on the behalf of others. In the same way, a logo is tasked with spearheading and representing a company. A logo is essentially a figurehead for a brand as can be compared to a leader being a figurehead for whatever they are representative of.

This jersey was worn by major league baseball player Hank Aaron. He was one of the leading home run hitters on the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team.

What the pillar of Community Building in a Diverse Society means to me is that people must put aside their differences and focus on their similarities instead in order to reach a mutual understanding of one another. When you are playing a sport with any team, all the players need to work together to win the game. In baseball specifically there are many different positions and roles that each player must fill in order for the team to reach success.

This is a steel lunchbox made in 1983. It depicts Mickey Mouse teaching Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse and Donald Duck teaching his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie.

What the pillar of Scholarship means to me is that we must be willing to learn in new ways and be flexible in not only the way that we take in others ideas but also how we present our own ideas to the world. This lunchbox represents scholarship in that lunchboxes have the function of holding food and the way that we fuel our bodies with food can be compared to the way that we fuel our bodies with knowledge. This physical picture of the younger kids learning from older experiential influences is also a direct correlation to the pillar of Scholarship.

This is the Hope Diamond necklace. It is made from diamonds that originate from India.

What the pillar of citizenship means to me is that each person in a community must acknowledge that they have a voice and a vote. In this necklace, I interpreted that the blue jewel in the center is held up by all of the white diamonds surrounding it. In the same manner all the citizens collectively are responsible for making their society beautiful.
