Samuel Gompers was the father if labor unions. Eugene Debs was the radical leader, promoted socialism and encouraged working class to revolt. Here's some problems with work the kids were becoming blind, getting sick then dying, get black smoke in their lungs, and their because their working spaces were so unsanitary. their was demand for skilled workers and unskilled workers. The hours were also long, no sick days, they had dangerous very working conditions, and no health insurance.

It took place in New York, 1911. 146 workers died that day either from jumping from the building, getting smashed to death, or getting burned to death. The women couldn't use the fire escape to get down because it collapse shortly after the fire started. When the fire men came their hoses could reach to the top floor because the fire men didn't update their hose/ladders but the people wanted to build more skyscrapers. Also the doors would only open inwards and most of the women were pushing up against each other so while some were trying to open the door and others were pushing to try and get out so they were stuck.

With the Chinese and Irish built the railroad it had a huge impact of farmers. Their was an increase in money and supply, and income tax. the farmers had a 8 hour work day. Being a farmer was not easy especially back then because after they were done building the rail roads they made prices higher because it was really hard to ship things by horse.

The most interesting thing I learned was working back in the day. Their was long work hours, no health insurance, no sick days, and the work conditions were very dangerous. It took a tragedy to change the way things were. It lead to labor unions. Their was demand with skilled workers and unskilled workers. A few things that changed over the 20th century 40 hour work week, maternity/paternity leave, paid vacation, banned child labor, and health insurance.

so I tried to think of a different way to connect but the only one was really sad so here goes. I can relate to the women in the burning building because when I was younger I was with my birth mom and, her boyfriend used to abuse me. So i'm kinda like the women in the burning building but on a mental note. i was stuck for a long time or at least it felt like it. The only thing that's different is that I got out of the burning building.
