How might you implement one of these standards in your classroom?
I could implement K-2.PA.2 Create developmentally appropriate multimedia products with support from teachers, family members, or student partners into my classroom by having my students work with a group to create a video about a topic. They could research the topic together and create something fun that would be interesting for their peers. For example, we have been learning about arctic animals. Each group would be assigned a different animal, and they would have to come up with a creative way to share what they learned in a video. This could also be done in a powerpoint or prezi presentation.

2.RN.2.3 Describe the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, and steps in a process or procedure in a text.

I would have my students use a resource on the internet to create a timeline of historical events. There are several different timeline generators that are kid friendly. They would use this timeline to answer questions and understand the connection between the events. We recently talked about several different presidents. My students could work in small groups to create a timeline about a president of their choice. Each group would share their timeline, and then we would discuss how we could connect the presidents to each other.

My students would be using their Chromebooks to create their timelines. I would expect my students to be able to follow directions and create a timeline using the online resource after we used it together a few times. This would help them be more familiar with the program. I think this would improve my students' learning experience because it is more hands on. They will be creating a project with their research, rather than just listening to me give them information about different presidents.

Symbaloo

This is a resource I already use in my classroom. It is a quick and easy way for my students to access all of the websites we use daily. Our class symbaloo is the home screen on every computer we have in the room. I created a square with a picture that shows my students the website for each website we use. This saves a significant amount of time because they can click on the box and it takes them directly to that page. I also like that I can share the pages I have created or add a public page. This resource is free to all Indiana teachers.

NBC Learn K-12

This tool is a great resource for my students and their parents. It is useful because students in Indiana can access videos on current events. The resource also has over 19,000 standard aligned resources for over 40 content areas. I love that this is a FREE resource for our Indiana families. It will help keep them up on current things happening in our world.

Were you aware of these standards for K-6?
The K-2 computer science standards are not on our current curriculum map. I was not aware of these standards, but after reading through them we incorporate most of these in our instruction everyday. The one that stood out the most to me was K-2.NC.1 Use technology to work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers, teachers, and others. I believe this standard is extremely important because our students need to learn how to work together with their peers.

One digital instructional tool I use that is not on the IDOE site is Kahoot. My students love when I let them play this. It is a great resource to review or learn new content. Kahoot is a game-based learning and trivia platform. I like this resource because you can create your own quiz or find public quizzes on specific topics.
