Introduction from Kim

Many many years ago, I waved hands with my family and aboard the night express bus, embarking a long journey from the very tip of southern peninsular to the place where I called home for the next couple of years… it’s dawn and air is fresh when I alight from the bus. I took a deep breath, cross Jalan Batu Uban and enter one of most reputable institute of higher learning – University Sains Malaysia. Yes, I am from Johor and obtained my Diploma and Bachelor Degree in USM. I spent 6 years in USM, 3 years each for Diploma Laboratory Technology and Bachelor Degree of Bioresource, Paper and Coatings. It’s a wonderful 6 years in my life and it couldn’t be any better to transit my youthhood to adulthood in the cradle of knowledge. I am like a sponge, absorbed possibly everything that life threw to me, be it good or bad. Apart from the knowledge that showered to me, I learnt how to live independently, how to communicate with strangers and develop into best friends who take care of each other. I learnt team work through group work in project and resolved conflict when divergence arises. I learnt how to take care of myself when I’m ill and far away from family. Those are the precious experience that I’m sure will certainly shaped myself into a better person that I will be in future.

Some of the big moments during the years in USM were unforgettable. I broke the USM high Jump Record twice and awarded Olahragawan once in USM Sport day. I’m part of the Champion Team of Volleyball Varsity Team in Sukmas for 4 consecutive years and won many title in open tournaments. I also represented Malaysia University in Asean University Games with a result of Silver. As an amateur high jumper, I took part in Sukmas once and got myself a bronze medal. This glitter in sport achievement has enhanced my confidence and nurtured my perseverance attitude which I think is an important attributes a person could have to propel future success in life.

I started out my career with a largest Linerboard producer in Malaysia as Head of Chemical Section, took charge of Chemical and QA functionality. It’s a fusion of blend personalities where I’ve to deal with all kind of people. My communication and tactfulness in addressing issues is further enhanced. Critical thinking is developed and certainly become more mature. I left my first job after 3.5 years and joined the largest Pulp and Paper Producer in Asia. I worked as R&D Manager at this moment in time, research and explore the insight of essential science and technology to innovate new products (personal care segment) to fulfill consumer needs. R&D is a bridge that links the production and marketing, translate the consumer language into measurable technical index for product development, filling patents and trade secret to safeguard our invention. I am currently holding 45 invention and utility patents and developed series of products that contribute to more than 80% of total company’s revenue ( > 8 Billion RMB). Because my current job required me to constantly dealing with production, sales and marketing, account and finance, that answer the reason why I took up MBA program. I always wanted to know how a big organization runs the business in a holistic way, how each functionality couples with others to revamp the business. With MBA, I would be able to view the business in many different perspectives, standing from the various angles to generate thoughts to propel better ideas to strengthen business. Understand the behavior of workers, teams and organization in a more scientific approach. Knowledge of MBA is a good cornerstone for start up a new business and definitely a sublime of the experiences an entrepreneur’s possession.

Before pen off, I would certainly work hard to acquire the Decision Analysis knowledge that I’m about to received from the course and hopefully will be a good fit for my future undertaking and understand more thoroughly in making a good decision variable when facing different constraints and different objective functions.

Kim (Ng Kim Hwa) Suzhou, China.

It was a snowy night in 98 when I saw the news that MYR ringgit is hiting the 4.40 exchange rate and I still have 2 Semester away from graduating from Iowa State University, USA majoring in BSEE. I came to US with limited budget, the only solution was to complete 2 Sem subjects into one and that was what I did and thankfully I managed to complete it with flying colors.
I decided to come back to Malaysia for a break and plan to return to the States to works as every student back then entitle for one year working visa upon graduating from the US universities. At the same time I have a family business and my father wanted me to help him up, I told him that I would like to give the outside world a try and apply what I had learned. While enjoying the long break I saw a newspaper advertisement of a MNC looking to hire fresh engineer, I told to myself why not give it a try and see how it goes and if things not turning well I will go back to the States to try my luck. Wrote in and within 2 weeks, received a call from HR to attend an interview. Went for the interview and at the end of the interview, the manager told me to start work next week. Frankly, I was not sure what exactly the role was back then and only knew that related to testing PCBA and decided to give it a try for 3 months as the heart back then still wanted to go back to the States.

Without realizing the 3 months stings turned up to become an 18 years journey with the company and I am right now still with the same company. For the past 18 years I had been through purely engineering related works and this juncture I am the test engineering department head with 300 strong team members under my leadership. Running operation from engineering support to develop new innovative idea to improve manufacturing test processes. I knew what got me here thus far may not get me further and to further my growth and beyond , I will need to equip myself with new skill set and keep challenge my self to achieve the next stage of my life goals. This lead me to signed up the OMBA and so far the journey been great one and at the same time also trying to encourage more subodinates and colleagues to embark on this program.

LP had been an eye opener and I believe many of the life or work situation can be put to test to determien the best outcome. Especially intrigue to study to see how to resolve more than 3 decision variables using graphical solution.

I love nature and outdoor and always make it a point to visit some parks every year. Below was my latest adventure at Yellow Stone National Park.

Kopivosian to Dr and fellow course mates. Just a simple introduction about me. Born and bred in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Graduate from UTM KL (Diploma in Computer Science) and UPM Serdang (Bachelor's degree in HRD). Humble start in career as an Administrative Assistant working at Sabah Education Department (10 years in ICT Sector and 6 months in Training Unit). Thank God that my calling came and I was promoted to a better post. Currently working in Sandakan, Sabah as Labour Officer since Sept 2016.

In 2015, since I'm hungry for knowledge, I decided to enrol OMBA program without any idea of what to expect. Frankly, I was scared and nervous as I wasn't the best in school/university before. It was such an honor to be accepted by USM to pursue my Master's degree. USM is one of the best university in the country and I'm thrilled yet scared if I'm not up to par with the standards. But still, I'm here. Hoping to learn more throughout the semester and I can tell this subject is not easy but there are always smart and helpful course mate around.

Hello everyone!
I am Hakimi, Taiping-born boy, and now living in Singapore.
I spent 6 years in Moscow, Russia for medical degree, and then came back to Malaysia, served our beloved nation at the government hospitals and polyclinic.
Along my clinical practice years, I was then realised that I wanted to give a different impact to patients' life. Hence, I begun my journey in pharmaceutical industry. I am currently working as a medical advisor for a Swiss-based MNC pharma, specialising in medical affairs of hematological-oncology diseases (I am sure you have heard/ aware of leukemia and other types of blood/bone marrow cancers).

Then, why am I pursuing MBA?
For me, MBA brings huge values to my daily job and for my future career development. From a science/medical background, moved to pharma industry, I am required to work together with people from marketing, sales, finance, R&D, and other supporting functions. By formally learning the essence of business management in this MBA program, I would then be able to have better sense of business activities within the company and the industry, and increase my capabilities as a leader in the future.

Are you interested to know more about me, and how we can collaborate and creating our value-added networking? Now I am back to my beloved hometown and work as a Business Development Manager for a trading company for sewing machines and automation in Batu Pahat.

I have been wanting to enhance my business and management skills through studying MBA, thus giving me new insight into my work. I called myself "the only grass among flowers" because for the last 2 semesters, I was surrounded by pretty and smart girls in my assignment group (p/s: do not envy me too much ya...). As in my family, the situation is also the same where I have 1 wife and 2 lovers. My youngest daughter in fact was born on our first class for ADW 615.

Hi, I am Chan. Fondly known by my peers and friends as Baba Chan. Being the eldest of a strict traditional peranakan family, we held close to our hearts the values of dicipline, integrity, honesty, good self-esteem, strong work ethic, traditional belief and kindness. I am very much atone to diversity, multiculturalism and multiplicity as I have a pretty diverse cousins and relatives from various culture, tradition and religion.

A banker with appropriate working experience. I have been to various different discipline of this industry and was lucky to be given the opportunity to manage branches and regionally. They say, people are the most challenging form of management and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people that are friendly, supportive and kind.

Success is sweet. And it is sweeter to see the people you work with overcome their fear of success and continue pursuing their dreams. I have a fair share of failures too. Failure is the best lesson one could learn from. In the end, failure teaches us to be stronger, wiser, and humble.

I look for simplicity in life but have the passion for knowledge, exploration, innovative ideas, sports and food.

Why MBA - it was the challenge I set on myself for my children, to inspire and to motivate them, in the pursuit for knowledge. I played drum with my son while my girl is on piano. I fence with my girl, while my son loves soccer and chess. While all of us are different in our passions, there is one common activities that binds us all. My wife ensures that the family involves ourselves in charitable work, wherether in cash or kind, within our means, in our little own time, in our little own way.

It is my hope that success follows all my fellow coursemates and our guiding lecturers, just like shadow follows it's master. I will continue to provide assistance and support to my fellow learned friends and lecturers in anyway I can, with the little experience I had, in anyway possible.

Yours humbly and sincerely,

Baba Chan Leong Hin.

My family is my strength ...😍

Hope you guys are having the time of your life taking this online MBA course. I was born a Penangite, had my early years education locally, pursued tertiary education in another country and now I’m back to the mother-land and been working for at least 10 years before I decided to make a crazy decision to come to being a student again. Like Harith Iskandar shared in one of his jokes, “I literally forgot everything that was ever been taught to me the day I graduated and left school. Returned everything back to the teacher”. I was never an avid learner, always sat at the back of the class or lecturer hall, barely passing all my subjects by the skin of my teeth. Perhaps the lecturer was kind, but somehow I pulled myself together, never lose focus and cross the finishing line and made it back to Malaysia with a paper that basically shows Employers that I’m employable. What was I thinking signing myself up for this MBA course and shackling myself for at least 2 years of suffering and mental tormenting? Honestly, I just happened to pass by USM on the MBA registration opening day and someone ask me, hey, please come in and check this new course out. It’s called ONLINE MBA! I don’t have to go into further details apart from Curiousity KILLS the CAT and the REST is HISTORY! But after kicking the hangover, I started to realise it’s not a bad decision after all….if you want to do something crazy in your life, why not start with signing up with ONLINE MBA??? It could not get any crazier than this and when you finally get another certificate to enhance your employability to a higher position, you get all the BRAGGING RIGHTS to your friends and your children and grand-children that “Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE if you put your mind to it”. =)
