The Flag of Portugal is the national flag of the Portuguese Republic. It is a rectangular bicolor with an uneven field divided into green at the trench, and red at the stop. The coat of arms (the Armillary Sphere and the Portuguese Shield) is centered on the border of the flag colors at an equal distance from the upper and lower edges.
The green represents the hope of the Portuguese people, while the red represented the blood of those who died serving the nation.
In the center, on the two colors, it has the Shield of the National Arms, and the Manuelilla Armillary Sphere, in yellow and enlivened in black. It symbolizes the voyages of the Portuguese navigators throughout the World, in the XV and XVI centuries. It was a symbol that King D. Manuel I chose to represent the maritime discoveries.
The Portuguese shield rests on the armillary sphere. The Shield remembers the defense of the territory. The white represents peace; the Quinas, in blue, represent the first battles in the conquest of the Country (it is said that they are the five Moorish kings defeated in the Battle of Ourique by D. Afonso Henriques); each corner contains five white points: the five wounds of Christ that helped D. Afonso Henriques to win this battle; the seven yellow castles represent the castles made to the Moors by D. Afonso III.

The Azores flag is one of the symbols of the Autonomous Region of the Azores. It has a rectangular shape, being its length one and a half times the height.
The flag is match of dark blue and white, the same as the flag of the Portuguese liberal monarchy.
In the center, on the dividing line, there is a flying hawk, " Açor", in a stylized naturalistic way, of gold and associated with the name of the archipelago "Açores". Over the goshawk and in a semicircle, it has nine equal stars, of gold, with five rays, that symbolize the nine inhabited islands that compose the archipelago.
Next to the stem, in the upper corner, is the Portuguese national shield, symbolizing the connection of the archipelago and the Azoreans to Portugal.
