What is California State Parks Week?

California State Parks Week is an exciting new annual event that celebrates the amazing diversity of California’s State Park System and the people who visit and help protect these iconic places. California State Parks Week advances the “Outdoor Access for All” initiative championed by Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom. In its second year, California State Parks Week returns from June 14-18, 2023.

The public is invited to tour the Shasta Union Cemetery on Friday, October 27th . These tours will explore the lives and deaths of pioneers of Shasta that are buried there.

Four tours will be offered from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and will last approximately 30 minutes Space is limited to 30 people per tour and reservations are required. Admission is $5.00 per person. Please call the Courthouse Museum at 243-8194, to reserve a space. Visitors are asked to bring a flashlight and to wear sturdy shoes. The tours will leave from the steps of the Courthouse Museum. Shasta State Historic Park and the Courthouse Museum are located six miles west of Redding on Highway 299W, in the town of Shasta. For more information or to make a reservation please call (530)-243-8194.

Come out, enjoy the park, and then read a story together on the StoryWalk, The location for the featured StoryWalk® at Shasta State Historic Park is in the picnic area of the park next to the Courthouse Museum . The StoryWalk® will be 0.3 miles long, and will feature “ Click,Clack,Ho!Ho!Ho!” by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin . For more information on this StoryWalk® please contact us at (530) 243-8194.StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk®is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.

Come out, enjoy the park, and read a story together on the StoryWalk! After enjoying the StoryWalk visitors are encouraged to participate in the rollout of the Junior Rangers Program at Shasta. The Junior Ranger program is an engaging educational opportunity for kids to learn about Shasta State Historic Park. The program is designed to inspire young enthusiasts to explore and appreciate the wonders of the park.

Upon successful completion of the activities outlined in the booklet and the review, participants will be awarded an official Junior Ranger badge as recognition of their achievement. The badge represents their dedication to learning about and exploring the park, and serves as a reminder of their commitment to preserving and protecting these special places for future generations.
