Paramore is an alternative rock band that has been around for over a decade. The band is highly regarded and in the view of many people, they are considered to be staples of the genre with such classic songs as "crushcrushcrush" and "Misery Business". The latest album release from Paramore titled After Laughter covers issues that many adults face when growing up, such issues as depression and facing the reality that plans and dreams don't always come true or go as planned. When listening to this album I was lead to ask the question of why it is that such a happy and upbeat album covers such real and grown issues and who this album was targeted to, and in doing so I found my answer. In reviewing After Laughter I realized this album served as a new stepping stone for the evolution and adaption of the band to show their fans growth and relatability. After Laughter uses two elements that are cohesively incorporated throughout the entirety of the whole album, these two elements are discrepancy and audio space. In my album review, I analyze the songs "Rose-Colored Boy" and "No Friend" each of them presenting a different element. In "Rose Colored Boy" I analyze Paramore's interpretation of discrepancy through the contrasting of the sad and depressing lyrics and the upbeat music, relating this back to how in many ways this facade is something that many adults face when confronting their feelings. In "No Friend " I explore the element of audio space through the songs use of rhythmic sounds and barely audible lyrics to make the listener feel like they're in an expansive space. After Laughter is a new beginning for Paramore that will lead them into a new age of their music, I think that this is the beginning of a strong career to follow many years.

This shows the translation of the discrepancy in their album, onto their videos while at the same time addressing the issue of masking one's sadness, and in doing so relating to their audience that has grown up with them.
Source: https://www.stereoboard.com/content/view/212666/9
