This is shown that you shouldn't always beleive in what people tell you. Clary through out the story finds out that her mom has lied to her about her life. Like for instance her dad and also that she's a shadow hunter.
The theme of good and evil
Evidence; There are angles and demons all through the text. The shadow hunters are there to kill the evil/ the demons.
an unbreakable friendship
example Clary and Simon. This is presented when Clary goes through her mother being taken and almost getting killed she gets  telliported to Lukes house. This there she finds simon hidding in  the shrubs . This shows that Simon's willing to go far beyond to make sure Clary is ok. Even when Luke lied to make Simon not investigate he still cares for his friend.
The ideas of powers
This is persented through the book when she learns from Jace what the stilist does. Meaning that when the ruens are drawn on shadow hunters they reserve the power the shadow hunter drew .
The idea of consealing ones feelings.
example : this is shown when Simon is infatuated but only the reader is  aware . Meaning the reader has an insight that the main character isn't aware of. Or the fact that Jace's best friend is in love with him. In this scene she gets the first sighting of shadow hunters and a demon. There she wittnesses  the murder /killing of a demon. This is the most important scene .
2 The coffee shop. This scene is important because it shows her bond with Simon and shows the readers by forshadowing on feelings Simon has for Clary. This scene also intruduces Jace the second main charecter .
3 The house . As Clary gets a phone call from her mom, Jaclyn to not go  home she travels to her house. As she is there, she encounters a demon and is almost murdered if not that she took Jace's Septor. And is also saved by Jace himself.
4 the institution . this scene explains mostly what shadow hunters are . This explains mostly what the main concepts  are that were brought up earlier in the book. This also plays important parts in intruducing the second leading chararters.
5  the incounter with luke. This is the sceen where Clary and Jace and Simon sneek into Lukes shop. There they over hear how Luke is betraying Joclyn and doesnt want to be in the way of Valintine. there  Jace also sees the murders of his father.

The main conflict in this novel is like a nightmear proceeding because every scary bed time story you were told is real life in this book. 
The writing style in this novel is like a tide coming in because the words slowly arise in your brain until they suck you into the book with it until your drowning in  another world. 
The novel is put together like a casefile because some things you can see the out come and the next the most unexpected thing happens. A sprinkle of awarness for the main charecter for she isn't aware of.
A cup of good luck for all the  misfortune thats been occuring.  
  A bottle of safety for all the unsafe occurences .
