"The Autopsy of Jane Doe" is a creepy, claustrophobic and scary low- budget horror movie. The screenplay is very well-written and the tension increases as long as the mystery about Jane Doe is discloses by the coroners. The limited use of special effects is another plus in this little gem. My vote is seven.

Experienced coroner Tommy Tilden and

This film was first launched at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2016. This horror genre film successfully won ten awards and was nominated for twelve international film awards.

This film shows the supernatural journey of a father and son pair of forensic surgeons. This phenomenon occurred when examining the body of a woman whose body was found by the police buried in the ground. During the autopsy process, Tommy and Austin begin to undergo increasingly strange and terrifying medical experiments. They found that Jane Doe's body had many internal injuries, but all the wounds seemed to be healing quickly. The deeper they dissected her body, the more strange things emerged. They also found a piece of cloth from inside her body which had many strange codes on it. So slowly the mystery was solved, and they ended tragically.

One day the body of an unknown young woman is found at the scene of a senseless mass murder. The discovery of the body was made after the police investigated the murder of a family. When conducting an investigation, Sheriff Sheldon and his team were confused because the discovery of the body did not match the crime scene. They then took the young woman's body late that night to coroner Tommy Tilden. The sheriff asked him to check the cause of death so that the next morning he could give an answer to the press. Tommy then carried out an examination with his son who would become his assistant. However, that night Tommy's son, Austin Tilden, was preparing to go to the cinema with his girlfriend, Emma. As a result, Austin canceled his plan and continued to help his father carry out the autopsy. Throughout the night the two of them examined the young woman and that night the weather was stormy and tragic. When carrying out an examination, the two of them were shocked by the strange and scary secret related to this woman. 

In this film, Burke finds Jane's body and he takes Jane to Tommy and Austin for an autopsy. However, Tommy believes Jane is a 17th century girl. In this century, girls are tortured to kill a witch. But apparently, the ritual actually produced more witches. During the autopsy, Tommy and Austin experience frightening visions, strange sounds and discover several oddities. Slowly, the mystery is revealed and ends tragically.

The movie opened with the discovery of three gruesome deaths in an unnamed American town. Sheriff Burke, a seasoned official, investigates the house with his team of forensic analysts. As the team explored, they found three dead bodies. Half-buried in the dirt floor is a young white woman, possibly in her early 20’s, hereafter identified as Jane Doe (Olwen Kelly). Showing no incisions, bruising, or any other signs of a struggle, the mystery surrounding the body begins to unravel with the fundamental question: How did she die? Sherriff Burke takes Jane Doe to the Tilden Morgue and Crematory where we are introduced to the primary characters: Tommy Tilden is the lead county coroner and father to Austin Tilden, who are working together, performing a routine autopsy. Her tongue was severed, a tooth broken, and she was forced to swallow it. Ankles and wrists are broken, etchings of markings on her skin, burning of her lungs, and laceration of her insides. Tommy’s theory posits that the very act of attempting to kill a witch inadvertently birthed a witch in Jane Doe’s case. So, Jane was an ordinary girl, and the ritualistic torture seemingly transformed her into a witch, who is immortal now and continues to feel the pain of that torture through the centuries even though her mortal body is dead.

They further conjure that they are merely in her path of revenge against humanity and end up as victims. In the process, Jane Doe gets to resurrect her body little by little. It is hinted that if this process continues, Jane Doe will return to life and wreck hell upon humanity.

Tommy decides to offer himself up to Jane Doe – the witch and supernatural force – so that his son is spared. He says he won’t fight her but wants to help her instead. Immediately afterward, the lights start to dim, and we see Tommy being supernaturally inflicted by the same kinds of wounds as on the corpse. Simultaneously, the corpse is miraculously seen to recover. As Tommy lies dying, the corpse of Jane Doe almost returns to life, denoted by the diminishing fogginess in the corpse’s eyes.

In one final attempt, Tommy tries to reach for a knife to slice off his tongue as part of his final sacrifice, but Austin stabs his father with it instead, bringing an end to his mortal pains. As Austin sits beside his father’s corpse, grieving, the radio starts playing again, and he hallucinates that the police have arrived for help. He tries to open the door leading to the outside but to no avail. Finally, he is scared by the vision of his own freshly dead father and slips from a height, tripping over the railings, to his death. The following day, when the police arrive at the scene, they find the three dead bodies and nothing supernatural about the corpse. They are now sending the corpse of Jane Doe to Virginia Commonwealth University for a fresh re-examination. Before the film ends, we see its big toe twitching as the radio comes on in the ambulance, signaling perhaps that the people in the ambulance will meet the same fate as Tommy, Austin, and Ophelia.

Tommy Tilden (Brian Cox) and his son Austin (Emile Hirsch) work as a team of coroners for a police force in a suburban area of the United States.

One time, there was a case of mass murder which still confused the police due to its random pattern and also due to the discovery of another body buried in the alter of the crime scene which had no identity at all and had nothing to do with all the victims on the top floor of the house.

Serif Sheldon Burke (Michael McElhatton) then sent the mysterious body to the coroner's house and asked Tommy to immediately investigate the death, the cause and possible identity which must be immediately reported to the public. All of these tasks had to be completed that night because the next morning, the report had to be received by the central police.

Austin, who was originally going home and going on a date with his girlfriend, Emma (Ophelia Lovibond), then returned to the autopsy room to help his father. Initially his father told his son to leave but Austin was stubborn in helping him, considering that there were 3 other corpses that they had autopsied so one more corpse was not a problem.

When they first saw the unidentified corpse, aka Jane Doe, both Tommy and Austin felt something was strange. The reason is that the corpse, which is thought to have been buried in the ground for quite a long time, has a body texture that can still be said to be very good. There were no defects, bruises or decay that were usually common in the corpses they usually received.

Putting this question aside, Tommy and Austin then started the autopsy. Starting from dissecting the stomach to see the contents of the stomach and providing the digestive tract of the woman's corpse. Once dissected, the corpse's stomach bleeds; even though the corpse should not be bleeding that much because the bleeding has stopped.

Even though they were surprised, Tommy and Austin continued to examine the corpse. Confusion really hit them both. After finding no trauma or bruises on the corpse's body, the color of the eyes had turned gray, the lower left molars were missing, the tongue was severed, the hinge bones of the legs and arms were crushed, the skin was pale and smooth; Now the two of them discovered another oddity after cutting open the corpse's stomach.

Once they managed to open the rib cage, Tommy and Austin were shocked again by the burnt lungs and all the internal organs, and the slashed heart.

When he opened the corpse's intestines, Austin also found a datura stramonium flower, also known as jimson weed or amethyst, in the corpse's digestive tract. Tommy and Austin began to think hard about what really happened to the mysterious corpse they were currently autopsying.

They also found a rolled and tied cloth containing a missing molar. When Austin opened it, he also discovered that there were Roman numerals, letters and strange diagrams on the cloth. As soon as the cloth was opened, strange things began to happen. The lights started flashing non-stop, the radio channels started sounding garbled.

However, they continued with the autopsy until finally they found many strange marks that had the same pattern as the pattern on the cloth under the woman's skin. When it opened, the strangeness happened again and it got worse. The lights exploded and plunged the room into complete darkness. Tommy and Austin finally decide to leave the coroner's room, but they are trapped.

They returned to the autopsy room and examined the body again. Suddenly the room was locked, Austin immediately tried to open the door with an axe. But when a gap opens, Austin sees one of the missing bodies roaming the hallway. They immediately realized that the oddity came from the woman's corpse. They immediately decided to burn the body. But it didn't work, it just got worse.

Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, reports that 86% of 110 surveyed critics gave the film a positive review; the average rating is 7/10. The website's critical consensus reads: "The Autopsy of Jane Doe subverts the gruesome expectations triggered by its title to deliver a smart, suggestively creepy thriller that bolsters director André Ovredal's growing reputation." Metacritic gave it a weighted average score of 65 out of 100, based on 20 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".

Dennis Harvey of Variety called it a "taut, yet often slyly funny scarefest", though he said the climax was unfulfilling. Though he praised the acting, Stephen Dalton of The Hollywood Reporter called the film an "unsatisfactory compromise" of art-house and exploitation film. Richard Whittaker of The Austin Chronicle wrote that Øvredal "constructs a sinister claustrophobia", then "elegantly and disturbingly unwraps the enigma". Joe Lipsett of Bloody Disgusting rated it 5/5 stars and wrote, "Øvredal masterfully balances the requisite gore with some well-earned jump scares and a foreboding sense of doom." Writing at Dread Central, Ari Drew described it as "mostly effective". Drew complimented the acting but criticized the f

In my opinion, this film has an unpredictable story so while watching it I felt tense, this film is also very unique because it takes the theme of autopsy which is very rarely produced by other films.

So, i think you have to watch this movie a soon as possible !

Synopsis:

Experienced coroner Tommy Tilden and his grown-up son Austin run a family- owned morgue and crematorium in Virginia. When the local Sheriff brings in an emergency case- an unknown female corpse nicknamed 'Jane Doe', found in the basement of a home where a multiple homicide took place- it seems like just another open-and- shut case. But as the autopsy proceeds, these seasoned professionals are left reeling as each layer of their inspection brings frightening new revelations. Perfectly preserved on the outside, Jane Doe's insides have been scarred, charred and dismembered- seemingly the victim of a horrific yet mysterious ritualistic torture. As Tommy and Austin begin to piece together these gruesome discoveries, an unnatural force takes hold of the crematorium. While a violent storm rages above ground, it seems the real horrors lie on the inside.

One day the body of an unknown young woman is found at the scene of a senseless mass murder.Sheriff Sheldon and his team are confused because the discovery of the body does not match the crime scene. They then took the young woman's body late that night to coroner Tommy Tilden. T he sheriff asked him to check the cause of death so that the next morning he could give an answer to the press. Tommy then carried out an examination with his son who would become his assistant. Throughout the night the two of them examined the young woman and that night the weather was stormy and tragic. When carrying out an examination, the two of them were shocked by the strange and scary secret related to this woman.

THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE is ostensibly a story about death. André Øvredal’s terrifying film follows Austin (Emile Hirsch) and Tommy (Brian Cox), a father-son team of coroners tasked with examining a body found partially buried beneath a brutal crime scene. They dub the anonymous woman Jane Doe (Olwen Catherine Kelly) and lay her naked corpse on their examining table for the invasive procedure. As they cut into her flesh, they discover that Jane Doe is much more than a cadaver. She is a centuries-old witch created by viscous torture who has been lying dormant in the earth since her execution during the Salem Witch Trials. With each layer Tommy and Austin peel away from her bones, they awaken her powers. Rather than discover and report her tragic story, they inadvertently awaken a powerful witch hellbent on reclaiming her own autonomy.

Witchcraft has always been a home for the marginalized. Many members of othered communities find relief and the freedom to express themselves in a religion with no central power structure or orthodoxy. Despite widespread stereotypes, modern witchcraft is as diverse as the witches who practice it. Whether choosing a patron deity, communing with Spirit, following the cycles of the moon, or simply connecting with the earth itself, occult paganism is usually a way to foster an alignment between the self and the larger world. Many practitioners of witchcraft do not cast spells or hexes to harm. The vast majority of modern witches use their magick only to enhance their own lives.

Though she is targeting Tommy and Austin, Jane is not the first one to kill. Finding his late wife’s cat wounded, Tommy breaks the poor animal’s neck rather than attempt to treat its wounds. Jane may have injured the cat, but it is Tommy’s choice to end its life. He similarly kills Emma, though this death is an accident. Jane creates an illusion of a reanimated corpse and Tommy defends himself with an ax. He swings the deadly blade at what he thinks is a ghost only to realize seconds later that he has actually struck and killed his son’s girlfriend. Both of these deaths are the results of Tommy’s distorted perception and pattern of responding to situations out of his control with defensiveness or violence. Trapped in the basement and attacked by corpses, the coroners give up trying to figure out what Jane wants and resort to simply setting her body on fire. Like the men of Salem, they try to destroy what they cannot understand. And once again, this fire only makes Jane stronger. 

Øvredal’s film tells the story of Jane’s own reawakening. She rises from the grave having absorbed the fear of the men around her in order to strengthen herself. By reclaiming her power, she represents every witch fed up with being vilified for taking control of their own lives. Her song can serve as a call to all marginalized people to let the sunshine reveal the power we each hold within ourselves.

SINOPSIS: The Autopsy of Jane Doe begins with the discovery of a mysterious grave in a country house. Inside the grave, an unidentified woman was found who died with an unexplained body condition. An autopsy is needed to determine the cause of death and the origin of this woman.

Tommy Tilden (Brian Cox) and his son, Austin Tilden (Emile Hirsch), are forensic experts who own a family autopsy clinic. They received the body of the unidentified woman for autopsy at a very late night. However, as time goes by, they begin to realize that Jane Doe's death was not a simple matter.

REVIEW: This film in my opinion is quite interesting and cool for horror or thriller films. Because I myself have never watched a horror film whose background story is about the autopsy of a corpse, the setting of the place and time is simple as well and the plot of this film can make it quite an interesting choice to watch it

In addition to finding several people lying with blood everywhere, a police officer found the body of a woman—Jane Doe—half buried in the basement. Surprisingly, this unidentident corpse did not wear a single piece of clothing and his skin was clean without the slightest trace of injury.

Sheriff Bruke (Michael McElhatton) then takes him to Tommy (Brian Cox) and Austin (Emile Hirsch), father and son who work in the autopsy section of the body. Since Jane Doe came, oddities after oddities began to occur in the autopsy room. Slowly, Austin and Tommy manage to uncover Jane Doe's identity. The character of Jane Doe, played by Kelly, who turns out to have a gloomy living background, makes the audience more focused on paying attention to the flat expression of his face, rather than his body which is only lying stiff. Especially for Kelly, Ovredal asked her cameraman to always take every picture of Jane Doe from a more clinically visible angle so as not to seem sensual.

Meanwhile, Kelly, who only acted stiffly during the film, was widely praised by the international media. Having to go through the shooting process for hours with his body motionless and naked, he even often had to hold his breath. However, because of this calm, Jane Doe managed to appear natural as a corpse.

Both Ovredal, Kelly, Brian Cox, and Emile Hirsch, slowly but surely, managed to build horror in this one and a half hour film. Even though it is only set in an autopsy room throughout the film, the audience continues to be curious about the strange events that appear.

Currently, Ovredal is working on his new film,Mortal, which will be released next year. Hopefully this director will again give a surprise in the next film-film.

This movie tells the story of a family who performs an autopsy on the body of a mysterious woman. The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a mystery horror film released in 2016. The movie is directed by André Øvredal and stars Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch.

Tommy Tilden (Brian Cox), and his son, Austin Tilden (Emile Hirsch), work together as forensic experts performing autopsies on bodies that arrive at their morgue.

The story begins when the police bring the body of an unidentified young woman (Jane Doe) to Tommy and Austin's morgue. Jane Doe was found at a massacre site with mysterious injuries, but with no signs that point to the cause of her death.

During the autopsy process, Tommy and Austin begin to undergo increasingly bizarre and gruesome medical experiments. They discover that Jane Doe's body has many internal injuries, but all wounds seem to heal quickly.

The deeper they cut into her body, the more mysteries are revealed. In addition, they found a number of strange artifacts inside Jane Doe's body, such as ancient coins that had signs of supernatural strangeness.

The movie ends on a high note of suspense as Tommy and Austin fight for survival against the supernatural forces that threaten them inside the morgue.

They manage to uncover the truth about Jane Doe. As it turns out, in ancient times, the woman was not a witch but was instead accused of being a witch and killed, the corpse wants revenge and its target is Tommy who had begged the corpse not to hurt Austin.

At that moment Tommy's ankles and hands were crushed, his internal organs were burned exactly like the wounds on the corpse. While those wounds were happening to Tommy, the woman's corpse was healing. Austin who saw his father like that then immediately ended his father's life so that he would not suffer more. Feeling that everything was finished, Austin went upstairs but it turned out that he was still trapped in the basement of the coroner's room to death.

The next morning, the police arrived and as usual, Serif Sheldon was again puzzled by the unexplained crime scene, exactly like the previous crime scene where the woman's body was found. Finally, the corpse was sent to Virginia Commonwealth University for further investigation.

The film actually opens in its only scene outside a morgue, as the police investigate a house full of brutally murdered corpses. There were dead families in pieces everywhere, but the strangest thing they found was a half-buried naked woman in the basement. Even though everyone was in a mess, he didn't have a scratch on his body. How did he die? Who's he? He ended up at our coroner's table and started telling his story. Internally, he was a complete disaster. It looks like he was tied up and tortured before he died. His tongue was cut. He was burned at some point. However, the exterior remains intact. Even without spots. And then things started to get really weird.

The director of the hit film “Troll Hunter” works wonders in a fantastic first hour. He sets up some beautifully realized sets, as when Cox explains how they used to tie bells to corpses just to make sure they were actually dead and not in a coma. Any horror fan will laugh, because we all know that the bell ringing will play a sinister role about 30 minutes later. It's a wonderful device, like when haunted house movies let us see a door creaking during the day before it creaks itself at night. And the first and second half here have a great setup/payout structure. As we begin to find out who Jane Doe is, the tension builds and the horror escalates. “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” is basically a great haunted house movie—the house just happens to be a morgue. And, again, we can't underestimate having two strong actors like Hirsch and Cox to sell what this film wants to sell. They make the unbelievable feel truly terrifying.

This goes for about an hour of its 86 minute running time and then "Jane Doe" kicks up the crazy factor and races to a conclusion that doesn't allow for much character or logic. It's not unusual for horror films to be more effective in their setting than their climax. A whisper of ridicule is much scarier than a scream in your face. Luckily, the first hour of “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” is so clever and well-acted that it makes the sins of the finale easy to forgive.
