However little is actually known about the man. He seems to be friends with almost everyone he and Nick encounters. ‘San Francisco.’" First off it seems as though he is trying to hide something about how he got his fortune by saying "all dead now" as if to make people not try to dig deeper into his family relations, which then goes to Nick asking what part of the mid-west he is from and he quickly replies without much thought and says "San Francisco" which is not in the middle-west at all. He does seem to reveal a little bit about himself though through his action of being interested in Daisy of which he knew before he went to war.
