I grew up in a family with a dad who was very much prejudice. It made me believe the world was a scary place and people from other cultures were bad people. Growing up I was afraid to build relationships with them and never got the opportunity to learn about their culture and the similarities and differences we share. As an educated adult and having the opportunities to see more cultures I was able to make my own beliefs and have learned so much about others. I enjoy getting to know others and their way of life and especially why people behave the way they do. I have to admit that I was a naive person thinking people don't mistreat others, the world is a great place. I try to stay away from the media for it can be very negative. Today we think with all of the education and awareness of racism, discrimination and prejudicism, you would think we would see less..however that is not the case. It is still happening and the sad part it's our leaders in the world that are setting bad examples. We have come a long way and I am seeing many more families from different cultures using our service, more now than I have in the past 5 years. I am greatly appricated of the acceptance and awareness that has grown over the years.

I was bough up by a french Canadian mother and a Jamaican father. In our family you spoke french to mom and English to dad. For my mother it was very important to keep the french language alive. In Sudbury, there was a small group of french speaking people as there still is today. My dad was a non participating seventh day advents, so my mom brought us up roman catholic. In our family multiculturalism was a way of life. My aunts and uncles on my father's side all married into different cultures. Among the cultures there are German, Italian, West Indian, Canadian, Jamaican, and British. From a young age, I was taught to respect other cultures and learn from them.
