 Comfort 

Letter from Kyrie, age 14, sent via Ipear300, receipt unknown. 

Dear, Kaysia, I’m your cousin kyrie from 5 generations after you. I've read a lot about you. It was only until recently where I discovered we were related and I made it my mission to learn everything about you. I listen to your old podcasts often and have always been moved by the issues you talked about. I admire your vulnerability and your willingness to speak about uncomfortable subjects. My mom keeps a box of family heirlooms up in the attic and I came across your diary from when you were my age. Now I understand where my love of writing comes from. I currently live in Los Angeles, California with my mom and dad. It's amazing to see how times have changed drastically.

In your podcasts you spoke a lot about your hope for the future and the many generations coming after you. It's insane to think that police brutality and racial inequality were such major issues back then. Every Time you spoke about it you were so passionate. I couldn't imagine living in a time where people weren't treated equally. 

I currently go to East side high where one of my majors is African American Studies. This might sound crazy to you but nowadays, when you get to high school you are required to take 3 majors so that when you get to college you'll already have a decision on what you want to do. But anyway, in history we talk a lot about the huge Back lives matter movement that happened in 2020. Is it really true that people were destroying buildings and setting fires as a way to protest? There was always a part of me that wanted to live in your time to see what it was really like. I'm sure there were many moments that were traumatizing for you as well. In your podcast you speak about the death of Goerge floyd at the hands of a police officer. We learned about his story in class as well. It's crazy how the people who took an oath to protect us were the same people killing us. My dad is a cop and I coulndt even imagine him doing something like that. 

My History teacher, Mrs. Bradley makes sure that we realize how much each generation as a whole has improved over the years. Racial inequality is rarely spoken about nowadays and police brutality has become a law where they are held accountable. These things aren't talked about anymore because it rarely happens, but Mrs.Bradley makes us speak about them. She makes sure we remember our history and our growth. She makes us have uncomfortable conversations the same way you did in your podcasts. It was because of those conversations that each generation is coming up smarter and wiser.
