Learning the five e method. I have always loved science but the five e method allows me to further dissect, observe, and learn with my students.

Learning how to plan a proper science lesson, and what thoughts go into to it being a good lesson.

I learned a lot about the types of questions that I ask to engage students. I really want to be sure that I am asking questions that get them thinking and excited for what they will learn and excited about the process. It's nice to have the 5E method to break it down.

I really liked the engage part of the 5e lesson design. I feel a lot of students especially those with 504 plans may have trouble engaging with material but learning how to do the engage part will help me with that.

I think it has influenced how I think about teaching science in wanting to be sure that I break down each step clearly and really offer a variety of methods of teaching for the variety of learning styles.

It has, I us to just find things to keep the kids entertain, but i now look for more meaningful lessons that require more time and effort.

I think one part that is difficult is time management with this model. Science is usually pushed aside maybe 45 minutes a day and doing all this in that time is difficult.

I want to see different approaches to lesson planning and different formats. I feel like it will be easier for me to find my own groove if I can see multiple teachers styles and approaches.

Yes, lesson planning has influenced that way I think about teaching science. 5E is really about teaching students to connect classroom experiences with the world around them. It aligns perfectly with the IB Learner Profile, so I found myself thinking about how these lessons can connect on various levels of learning

I have not really applied any strategy as of yet, due to me teaching 2nd grade and we do not have a science curriculum in my county.

I tried to be sure that I was accommodating to neurodiverse students by structuring the lesson plan in a way that was engaging, hands on, and had clear steps to follow. There were many visuals and chances for open discussion, which I think is helpful for all learners. I also think there are natural breaks where I as the teacher could provide one-on-one assistance as needed.

since i teach younger grades, if i have a student that is not ready for these kinds of higher expectation activities, then i find something else for them that is at their ability level

It has affected how I look at teaching science in general and really given a framework as to how to work best with different kids.

I have never considered teaching science but I will say that it has positively influenced my teaching. I am currently teaching a sound tech class and did a lesson based on the mid-term project. The principal observed that class and gave me great feedback.

For me, thie biggest takeaway is having children engage in various types of learning rather than only passive learning. This has helped me recognize how important it is for students to be truly engaged and inquire about the topic. I hope for students to make connections with previous contextual knowledge.

Absolutely! I found that I feel the need to explain things to my students without giving them the chance to be curious first. This has helped me rein that in and really give students the proper time to explore their own thoughts and ideas!

Following what we have done in your class, I thought more deeply about addressing different learning styles. Some students are more tactile learners so having a hands on experience/lab, some students are auditory so having space for them to listen to stories etc. It was challenging to find appropriate materials that gives the students the information that they need as it relates to the topic. I would like to explore other materials that I can use to better solidify the information

The 5E lesson helped me see how to expand on my science lessons. Science is often shortened or pushed aside, it's important to take the time to actually do these things.

My learning gain here has definitely been thinking through all of these exploratory steps for the students. Keeping the students focused on inquiry is really powerful. I also think the past article we read about assessment has been a positive influence on helping me thinking more creatively about assessment and what the true purpose of assessment is.

A challenge I came on was not having enough time. I had to take a lot out of lesson and modify due to limited time.

Yes! We group plan and the science lessons are very short and usually videos or watching experiments. I have been making an effort to give the class time to actually do instead of watch.
