In our case, the commitment would be to student learning and teacher growth. The community engages in a variety of activities (not limited to grade level planning).  Each PLC would each have a shared vision, work and learn collaboratively,  and participate in shared decision making. Professional learning communities are very beneficial to educators and students.  They provide teachers with a support base which reduces isolation of teachers.  It keeps the teaching staff as a whole better informed and produces committed teachers. This will lead to academic gains for students.  When implemented in the correct manner, PLCs prove to be a powerful staff-development approach and an effective strategy for school change and improvement.
