This is my 17th year in education. I did not want to be an educator in the beginning. I wanted to go to law school and practice Civil Rights Law. I wanted to fight for special education rights for children based on my own experience as a student with special needs. I attended Lehigh University and my focus began to change. Dr. Zirkel fostered my love of special education law, and Dr. Spade fostered my love of education policy and lead me into the field of sociology of education. Fast forward I ended up earning my M.S. Ed from the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education who had a great program with the Teachers College in education policy. I earned my teaching degree in education policy, teaching and curriculum. I began teaching in Brooklyn, NY and became a collaborative teacher and fell in love with my special education students. From there I entered a special education program in NYC where I had an emergency certification in general special education and was going through the mentorship program to become a special education teacher. While doing all this, my husband was working on his Ph.D. program and we had 3 daughters. Once he finished his program, he enrolled in a fellowship program through Harvard, which brought us to Kentucky on a grant through the Gate’s Foundation. The grant was only going to keep us in Kentucky for 2.5 years. 9 years later we are still in Kentucky and I have enjoyed my work with the Kentucky Department of Education, and I am so excited to be part of this program. I look forward to being able to serve as a powerful role model for others, by setting high expectation of other leaders and other student advocates. We can do better and our kids deserve better than just the floor of opportunity.

On a personal note my favorite things are cooking, running/walking, music, spending time with my family traveling, and Wine Education

Hey all! I'm the one responsible for the Bueller, Bueller moment in the meeting due to a calendar mix-up on my part! I just about crawled under a rock when I figured out what happened! But, I'm so excited to be a part of this work, and I'm happy to "meet" all of you here! :) This is my 18th year in education, and I've taught in Ohio, North Carolina, and Kentucky. I was a classroom teacher for many years in a variety of settings, but always somehow ended up taking on leadership roles - I loved mentoring new teachers, served as a model classroom teacher, supervised studen teachers, taught PD, and served as team leader at the elementary and high school levels. When I arrived in Kentucky, I was already at Rank 1 due to being a NBCT, and participating in the DoSE program at Morehead State and in this academy is helping me continue to grow and learn professionally. Last year I was a special education consultant at NKCES and helped develop several online modules, which was so much fun! This year I'm still at the Co-op, but serving at our alternative school as part of the administrative team there. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!
