According to "Erikson's Eight Life-Span Stages", children now need to direct their energy toward mastering knowledge and intellectual skills. Now a child is more able to teach themselves and/ or work through problems by themselves. For example, once a child starts to learn how to read, they're able to read through books on there own. The ZPD is still there, and a child may need assistance with tougher words, but they're more able to work alone verses a younger child.

Children can complete operations with objects. They're able to reason logically when the reasoning can be applied to specific or concrete examples. For example, in the video, when the children were asked to draw the setting of the story. There is still a ZPD because the teacher is needed to help explain how to do it, but with her help, the children are able to complete the task. Now after knowing the setting is in a town, the children know to draw things that would be found in a town.
