The schoolwide late work policies are too permissive, devaluing turning work in when it is timely, relevant, and impactful on their learning.

ML students need explicit language immersive and experiential learning which facilitates their active and passive absorption of English as an Academic language. Therefore, more teachers need to be familiar, equipped and empowered with those tools and best practices to support their immense language needs in the live lessons. Also, they will benefit from collaborative data dig meetings and co-planning and co-teaching between content and ML teacher weekly.

Students are procrastinating. They wait until the deadline approaches to begin submitting. I wonder if the data will show a lower percentage of D/Fs closer to the deadlines.

Lack of self start and organization skills.

Students are not completing work do the lack of comprehension of the material. A return to the basics as a school has a benefit. For example, the idea that cross curriculum provides illustrates material learned in one course can be applied in other.

Students are not attending live lessons or alternatively, watching the recordings. This results in a lack of instruction of context for completing the work.

Incoming freshman and parents do not understand the graduation requirements and credits needed to graduate high school

Because they don't understand the concept.

The "high flyer" students are are afraid to submit work that is not fully completed or "perfect". They are so afraid of messing up their grade permanently, that they accept the temporary dip in grade to give them more time to turn in an assignment that is closer to 100% correct.

There's not a compelling reason for them to complete the work.

They know they can catch up with low quality, rushed, or plagiarized work with little investment
They don't have a clear vision of how the things they are (supposed to be) learning impact their lives and futures
Grades don't really matter to them
No one is making them do it

-Because there is a lack of accountability for students.

Why is there a lack of accountability?

-Because policies reinforce undesired behaviors (50s for doing almost no work, there are no consequences, many learning coaches are at work all day and expect their students to do work without being checked on)

Why are these policies ineffective?

-Because teenagers largely don't have the self-motivation to do it on their own, there need to be mechanisms in place to hold learning coaches accountable so that the changes we make at the school level are reinforced at home.

Why is this something that can be fixed?

-Because we are seeing results with changes we have made to encourage compliance and accountability, but we need more help on that front.

Why do we need more help?

-Our team can't do it all themselves with the sheer number of students who are in this position. Adding members to the intervention team will help.
