Similarities: They became stranded because of a plane crash. They both were on the island for a long time. The people loose themselves in the time they were on the island. They both had their best friends die. 
Dereferences: In LOTF there was a group of boys, but in Cast Away there was only one man (and one dead man) and a volleyball. (Wilson). Also, in LOTF the boys were rescued from a plane, while in Cast Away he was rescued from a ship.
Symbols: One symbol that showed up in both stories is the fire, and what the fire is is a symbol of hope for rescue. Friends for hope and a cure for loneliness.
Knowing: They both had the same kind of story line.
