Instances:
Some instances of civility in LOtF are the Leadership they establish with the conch. When that democracy gets destroyed, this symbolises that the serenity and sanity they once had was lost. Instances of Savagery in LOtF are when the boys start to go crazy, and pretend some of the other boys are pigs. Many things symbolise insanity, such as their face paint, the way they act, and murder. Some instances of civility in Cast Away are the packages that keep washing upon the shore from the plane crash. Another is the porta-potty.Instances of savagery in Cast Away are how Tom Hanks/Chuck has deep and intellectual conversations with Wilson. Then, he suddenly gets angry with him and throws him.

Some things in Cast Away that lead me to believe that the director of the movie knew a lot about LOtF are the basic way the story was set up. From being stranded on an island, to struggling with simple things we wouldn't even think to fret about in our domesticated life. I think the director also was inspired to symbolize major things with simple items or tasks, such as the fire, packages, and many more things. He also took away how your mind changes when your away from civilization for that long.
