When Tara arrived and she finally saw her Dad, she couldn't recognize him at all, it was still him but he was burned very badly from an explosion. He refused to go to the hospital because he didn't want to die there, so Tara's Mother and other family members helped to try and keep him alive. Now in chapter 35, Tara was fleeing her home because she wasn't safe with Shawn around and she had to get away. "I can't decide, whether I should kill you myself, or hire an assassin," (page 291), is what Shawn said calling Tara the day after she left. When Tara read the message she realized that she never should've come because her family thought that she was lost and that they could never really get her back.
