The hihats and cymbal recordings were based on hitting the metal bars of a clothes rack using a chopstick, with different levels of effort and direction, resulting in variations in vibration, decay from initial transient, and texture of sound. The shaker was based on scrunching beads in an airplane pillow which produced a sound very similar to this instrument, so didn't require too much processing.

Key: C Major

Tempo: 110bpm

When stuck for ideas I like to ironically make house/ electronic music as it has a pretty rigid structure which allows for quick song generation. This track was created using various analogue synths, which were then recorded and manipulated in ableton and then exported into FL studio to create further variation (I enjoy using the various built in EQ&LFO modulator effects in this DAW). The vocals were created by my housemate and I improvising and semi mocking the style of lyrics often heard in the genre.

To demonstrate my understanding of this week's concept I created a melodic motif that builds in complexity as other instrumental layers are introduced. The first instrument that is heard has 4 melodic variations. Everytime a new instrument layer is introduced, it repeats the last bar of each melody played by the instrument before. Each bar introduces a new instrument until all 5 layers are heard, which is when the structure builds down again to create a satisfying cascading/modulating effect.

Key - A minor

Bpm - 120bpm, 4/4
