<title>Species extinctionThe problem: on land, wild animals are being hunted to extinction for meat, ivory or for the production of &quot;medicinal&quot; products. At sea, large industrial fishing boats equipped with trawl or seine nets are decimating entire populations of fish. Habitat loss and destruction is also a major factor in the wave of extinction – something unprecedented considering that it is being caused by a single species: humans. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of threatened species continues to grow.Species not only have the right to exist, they also provide products and &quot;services&quot; essential for human survival. An example is bees and their pollination work, which is necessary for growing food.</title>
