North Korea has allowed the United Nations to visit and report on human rights for certain issues. North Korea has also allowed for family reunions from North and South Korea to bring relief for the time that they have been separated. By the use of negotiation North Korea has released prisoners that would have not been otherwise released. During food shortages or "famine" North Korea granted for organizations to help during natural disasters or widespread hunger. North Korea has also tried to fix human rights issues by using economic reforms to improve its standards of living.

Some human right violations that still persist include, the continency of prison camps and are tortured and made to do labor. Restrictions on Freedom of Expression still have not been addressed and the government still has large control over media and private information while punishing people that are distributing confidential information. Forced labor is still unceasing and children are never the less exploited. Discrimination also continues in North Korea, which limits the freedoms of individuals aiming to get a job or an education.

There is little right to censorship and people have no say in what the government does with their information. North Korea and its regime still has an effect on its people and maintaining control.
