The StarClan member tells him that there is great trouble coming to the forest. However, before he could ask any questions, the StarClan member leaps away, into the bushes. He wakes up, but decides to keep silent about it, since he initially thinks that the dream isn't real. He wants to know if anyone else has had the dream. A few days later, he travels to the Fourtrees, a place where cats from different clans can meet without trespassing into another clan's territory, at midnight. Just after arriving, he realized that Squirrelpaw had followed him there, since he was curious where he was going. He finds that Tawnypelt is also there, and that she has also had the dream. They discuss what to do about it, and agree to show up to the Fourtrees again at midnight, at the next full moon. Squirrelpaw nags Brambleclaw to keep her updated of this new prophecy, and he reluctantly agrees to do so, as long as Squirrelpaw promises to not tell anybody about it.

When arriving at the Fourtrees the next full moon, Brambleclaw, Tawnypelt, and Squirrelpaw finds that Crowpaw, Feathertail, and Stormfur are also there. He is stuck in a fast current of salty water, with blood in it, and is being drawn toward a huge, dark hole, surrounded by jagged rocks. He kicks and thrashes to try to stay afloat, but the current keeps on dragging him down. He gets sucked down into the hole, but to his relief, he wakes up, in his nest in the warrior's den. He happens to meet Ravenpaw during the day, and tells him all about the dreams he had. Ravenpaw informs Brambleclaw that the place, the sun-drown-place, was real, and suggests that StarClan probably wants him to go there.

When he met the others again, he told them about the dream and Ravenpaw's suggestion. The other cats first seemed skeptical about this, but realized that there was no other choice. Squirrelpaw begged Brambleclaw so she could come on the journey with them, and Brambleclaw, once again, hesitantly agreed.

Purdy leads them through a lot of twolegplaces. The cats, following Purdy, is certainly not used to this, and at first doubts his knowledge on where the sun-drown-place actually is. One night, while the cats were trying to find a place to sleep, Tawnypelt gets bitten by a rat on her leg. The wound gets infected, which heavily hindered her ability to walk. After days of traveling, the cats enter a forest once again, and rest there for the night. Squirrelpaw finds some burdock root in the forest, which helps rat bites. When she put it on Tawnypelt's wound, it hurting instantly stops, and the bite begins to heal. 

Meanwhile, back at their home, clan leaders have noticed the disappearance of the 6 cats. They conclude that the cats have probably left for a reason, and the best thing they can do is to just wait, since there's not any other choice.

The next day, the 6 cats had to continue with their journey once again. Purdy leads them to where the forest ended, and a plain started. Purdy tells the rest of the cats that if they continued following the direction of the setting sun, they would eventually find the place. At this point, Purdy leaves the group of cats, and says he'll be waiting here for them when they some back.

On the plains, there were no burdock roots, and Tawnypelt's wound begins to worsen again. Eventually, they reach a huge, steep cliff. While walking along the cliff to search for a way down, Brambleclaw slips and falls down the cliff. He finds that he is stuck in a fast current of salty water, with blood in it, and is being drawn toward a huge, dark hole, surrounded by jagged rocks. He kicks and thrashes to try to stay afloat, but the current keeps on dragging him down. He passes out from exhaustion.

When Brambleclaw comes to be again, he finds himself in a cave, which was the huge, dark hole that he saw previously, with the other cats. However, as Brambleclaw started to become aware of his surroundings, a badger appears. The forest will be destroyed to make room for the Thunderpath. The 6 cats must go back to tell their clan leaders that the clans of the forest must find a place to move.

Back at the forest, Firestar sees monsters going along a Thunderpath slowly, and to his surprise, they slowly moved to a tree. He saw the monster run into the tree, and soon, the tree was uprooted, and it fell.
