He could be tired, hungry, or in bad mood, but he will still do what he needs to do without giving up.
Courage- it is obviously difficult to accustom yourself to a new environment, especially if it is forced. Buck was forced into a new climate, with different terrain, and a new 'job'. Even when he didn't know where he was or what was going on around him, he still did what he was told. He was couragious in what he did.

Subjugate means to bring under domination or control, especially by conquest.
