"He was crying with sheer rage and eagerness as he circled back and forth for a chance to spring in." (25). Spitz is relentless when it comes to trying to attack Buck and get power over Buck.

Buck is fierce and determined. I think these traits help Buck thrive in this new world because the push him to keep going when things get hard and the fight back when he is fought. When the team was attacked by wild wolves Buck's fierceness pushed him to attack and attack a wolf. That is why I think his fierceness is the most important trait.

He could be tired, hungry, or in bad mood, but he will still do what he needs to do without giving up.
Courage- it is obviously difficult to accustom yourself to a new environment, especially if it is forced. Buck was forced into a new climate, with different terrain, and a new 'job'. Even when he didn't know where he was or what was going on around him, he still did what he was told. He was couragious in what he did.
*I believe these two are the most important*

And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive. This ecstasy, this forgetfulness of living, comes to the artist, caught up and out of himself in a sheet of flame; it comes to the soldier, war- mad on a stricken field and refusing quarter; and it came to Buck, leading the pack, sounding the old wolf- cry, straining after the food that was alive and that fled swiftly before him through the moonlight" (page 33.)

Some traits that have helped Buck to thrive in this new world is his cleverness, strength, ability to adapt, and smart decision making. I think the most important trait of all of Buck's traits is his cleverness. Therefore, I believe that his cleverness has been his most important trait. This is due to the fact that he was clever enough to know not to mess with other dogs, but yet to lead them the right way, the other dogs are obviously unhappy with Spitz as leader and would except any little change they could get. So therefore, why not 🤬 two birds with one stone, by taking Spitz down he not only get's rid of his pain in the neck but then also he will become leader, and being leader get's you lot's of special treatment, he was very clever with the steps he took to get to the top, which is why cleverness was Buck's most useful trait.

He quickly learns important lessons, finds a way to make himself warmer at night, and quickly learns how to help his dog team. All of these are examples are Buck adapting to his environment. This is important because he needs this trait to survive.
