         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Examination Instructions:</strong></p><ol><li><p>The assessment will be conducted in the classroom.</p></li><li><p>Arrive on time. If you arrive late, you will not be granted extra time at the end of the examination.</p></li><li><p>You will be handed an article in&nbsp;a hardcopy form, and you will be requested to summarise it and respond to it on Moodle. So, bring a pen/pencil with you.</p></li><li><p>You must bring your laptop/tablet, a charger, and make sure the Safe Exam Browser is properly installed and functioning. We will not have time in class to fix technical issues.</p></li><li><p>Failure to bring your tablet/laptop and failure to install the Safe Exam Browser will result in counting you Absent for the attempt.</p></li><li><p>During in-class assessments, it is strictly prohibited to use technological aids and generative artificial intelligence tools (AI tools), including translation software, paraphrasing tools, and text generation software (essay bots). If a student is found using any of those tools during the assessment, this will be considered as academic misconduct and will be penalised accordingly.</p></li><li><p>Opening any additional tabs or windows during the assessment will also be treated as academic misconduct.</p></li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>About the Assessment:</strong></p><ol><li><p>The Critical Reading Task assessment constitutes 25% of your module mark. You can see details of how you will be graded in the assignment brief attached to this email and posted on Moodle.</p></li><li><p>The Task is divided into two Parts: Part I is the Summary, in which you are required to produce a 200-word summary of the article that will be handed to you. Part II is the Response, in which you are required to respond to the same article in 200 words.</p></li><li><p><strong>The Summary</strong></p></li></ol><ol><li><p>Begin your summary by an introductory statement and acknowledge the author and title of the original text according to the APA style (e.g. <em>Omarah (2024) guides students ...</em>).</p></li><li><p>Your summary must deliver the same message as the original text without adding new information or your opinion.</p></li><li><p>Present the main message clearly and maintain proportionate emphasis on ideas, giving more weight to main ideas, and avoid adding unnecessary details.</p></li></ol><ol start="4"><li><p><strong>The Response</strong></p></li></ol><p><strong>Consider the Following When Composing a Reading Response:</strong></p><p><strong>     a) Agreement/Disagreement</strong></p><ul><li><p>Did the&nbsp;author write a convincing argument?</p></li><li><p>Were their opinions informed and supported by credible evidence?</p></li><li><p>Do you have personal experiences, opinions, or knowledge that make you come to similar or different conclusions than the author?</p></li><li><p>Do your opinions about the same ideas concur or differ</p><p><strong>b) Reflection</strong></p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Did the article teach you something new? Perhaps they made you look at something familiar in a different way.</p></li><li><p>Can you connect this text to other sources you have come across before (these can be articles, talks, podcasts, reels, social media posts, blog posts)?</p><p><strong>c) Perspective</strong></p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Is there anything important that the text has excluded or left out? If so, what, and why would including more information be important?</p><p><strong>d) Significance</strong></p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Does the text have any relevance within your context, community, country, or the world?</p></li><li><p>Does it address any historical or contemporary social concerns?</p></li></ul><ol start="5"><li><p><strong>Before Submitting</strong></p><p>a) Ensure that your <strong>summary and response are clearly organized</strong>.</p><p><strong>b) Proofread</strong>&nbsp;your work for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and accurate word choice.</p><p>c) Use a <strong>formal academic tone</strong>&nbsp;and follow academic writing conventions (no slang, no contractions, no personal pronouns except in the response).</p><p>d) Include the <strong>full APA&nbsp;reference</strong>&nbsp;at the end of your text.</p></li></ol><blockquote><p><em>Example:</em>&nbsp;Lastname, F.
