The apple pie originated in England in the 1300’s but had culinary influences from France, the Netherlands and even the Ottoman empire. Apples are not even native to America only one type of apples which is the wild crab apple. Early settlers that arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607 brought Apple seeds and cuttings from Europe in order to plant them. But the apples were not good tasting until they evolved into better tasting ones which were then used in the pies.

Crab apples that grew in North America were just used for cider since they were typically shrunken and sour. People rarely ate them.
