They made their way through a crowd shouting profanity and throwing objects. Once the students reached the front door the National Guard prevented them from entering the school and were forced to go home. Showing the Black lives matter salute on the podium with their gold and bronze medals caused  Smith and Carlos to be suspended from the U.S. Olympic team and forced out of the Olympic Village. As well as when they returned back to the U.S, death threats were awaited them.
