If an animal lives in a cold place, and it doesn't have any fur, then it will pass on the genetic information to the next generation and eventually after a long period of time, the same organism may have evolved into a different species altogether with new adaptations. 

And not only do environmental factors play a role, animals in the same habitat play a role. If there are lions and deer in one place, then the deer will adapt to having longer and thinner legs so it can escape its predator.
